ST. ELMO -- Dieterich captured the championship of the Class 7-2A St. Elmo Basketball Sectional Monday.

Dieterich downed Nokomis, 39-21. Dieterich tore out to a 13-4 opening quarter lead and held Nokomis to one point in the second quarter while putting together another 13 points to lead 26-5 at halftime.

Bohnhoff scored 10 of Dieterich's 13 points in the opening quarter. Niemerg tallied six and A. Schottman five in the second period run.

Nokomis came back with a 13-2 third period but Dieterich got back into the groove in the final quarter with an 11-3 run.

Bohnhoff finished with 18 points while A. Schottman added 11.

Dieterich now heads to the Class 7-2A State Tournament at East Peoria Central Junior High School with a 23-2 record and will meet Aurora Christian (22-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Other members of the state field include Peoria St. Philomena (21-4), Roanoke-Benson (23-3), Decatur Montessori Academy for Peace (11-4),  Mount Sterling Brown County (27-0), Colfax Ridgeview (17-8) and Kincaid South Fork (23-4).

There will be the four first round games played Saturday at Macon Meridian High School and two semifinal games. The winners of the semifinal games advance to the state championship Thursday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. while the losers square off for third at 6.

Class 7-3A Paris Mayo Sectional

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Paris Mayo Sectional with a win over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 39-21.

Red Hill moved into a 7-4 opening quarter lead but T-town came back with a 9-3 second quarter to lead 13-10 at halftime.

The Wooden Shoes then went on a 16-6 third quarter run to put the game away.

Jake Probst led the Shoes with 16 points while  Eric Weidner added 10.

The Wooden Shoes (26-2) advance to the 3A State Tournament at El Paso-Gridley High School Saturday and will face South Holland McKinley (18-3) at 1 p.m.

Other teams in the field include Quincy St. Peter (17-5), Crest Hill Richland (23-0), Metamora (25-0), Monticello (19-8), Avon Abingdon Avon (26-1) and either Girard N. Mac (16-11) or East St. Louis Lincoln (20-2). That game was postponed Monday.

The semifinals are set for 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. The winners of those two games will meet for the state title Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 6.

Class 7-1A Martinsville Sectional

Newton St. Thomas won the championship of the Class 7-1A Martinsville Sectional Monday.

St. Thomas defeated Champaign Judah Christian. No score was provided.

St. Thomas heads to the 1A State Tournament Saturday at East Peoria Central Junior High School with a 20-5 record and will face Lincoln West Lincoln Broadwell (23-5) at 2:30 p.m.

Other teams in the field include Royal Prairieview Ogden (22-2), Springfield Christ the King (17-0), Pana Sacred Heart (22-4), Pontiac St. Mary's (20-4), Ottawa Marquette (18-6) and Peoria St. Jude (17-4).

The winners will meet in semifinal play at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday. 

The winners of those two games advance to the state championship Thursday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. while the losers drop into the third place contest at 6.
