Eighth-grade boys basketball regionals got underway Saturday. Following are the scores:

 

 

Class 8-1A Hutonsville Regional

North Clay (Louisville) and Newton St. Thomas advanced with victories in the Hutsonville Regional.

North Clay won over Hutsonville, 41-2. North Clay is now 9-11 on the season.

In the second game, Kansas downed Martinsville, 41-18.

Newton St. Thomas then won over Chrisman Scottland, 45-30.

North Clay will now meet top-seeded Mattoon St. John's Tuesday at 5:30 followed by Newton St. Thomas against Kansas at 7. The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 8-1A Decatur Lutheran Regional

Neoga and Sigel St. Michael advanced from first round play Saturday.

Neoga defeated Decatur Lutheran, 38-24 while St. Michael won over Findlay Okaw Valley, 36-11.

In the middle contest, Pana Sacred Heart ended Windsor's season, 51-21.

Neoga then faced top-seeded Effingham Sacred Heart and fell, 49-23 while St. Michael lost to second-seeded Pana Sacred Heart, 36-22.

Effingham Sacred Heart and Pana Sacred Heart will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for the regional championship.

 

Class 8-2A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won the opening contest at the Stew-Stras Regional Saturday. CHBC downed St. Elmo/Brownstown, 58-39.

In the second game,  Assumption Central A&M defeated Altamont, 55-20.

The final game of the day went to host Stew-Stras over Ramsey, 51-24.

The regional continues Tuesday as CHBC faces top-seeded Nokomis at 6 p.m. followed by Stew-Stras against Assumption Central A&M at 7:15 p.m. The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Dieterich and host St. Anthony picked up opening round wins Saturday.

Dieterich downed South Central, 31-24.

St. Anthony then won over Oblong, 39-21.

Dieterich meets Casey-Westfield at 6 p.m. Tuesday while St. Anthony takes on Paris Crestwood at 7:15 p.m.

The winners will meet for the regional championship Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

 

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis, the top-seed, advanced to the second round of play in its own regional Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes ripped out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead on Decatur Johns Hill and led 33-4 at halftime and that was the game as the Shoes won 47-29.

Kendal Mette was the lone Wooden Shoe player in double figures with 10. Ross Bloemer added eight.

Tuscola East Prairie won over Arthur, 43-22. Tuscola East Prairie will now meet Teutopolis at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

In the third game, Macon Meridian downed Sullivan, 39-17 and Shelbyville Moulton finished out the day Saturday with a 46-23 win over Decatur Dennis.

Macon Meridian and Shelbyville Moulton square off at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The Tuesday winners meet Thursday for the championship at 6 p.m.

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional

Class 8-3A Cumberland Regional

Three games were contested Saturday at the Cumberland Regional.

Jasper County defeated Paris Mayo in the opener, 45-29.

Jasper County trailed Mayo 8-7 after the opening quarter but moved ahead 16-13 at halftime and led 31-24 going into the final period.

Hayden Mulvey hit the 30-point mark to lead the winners. Mulvey was the top defender while Jacob Oldham was the top rebounder.

Jasper County is now 8-15 on the season.

The second game went to Robinson Nuttall over Marshall, 46-8.

In the final game, Lawrenceville Parkview downed Red Hill (Bridgeport), 46-19.

Wednesday's games feature Cumberland against Jasper County at 6 p.m. followed by Robinson Nuttall facing Lawrenceville Parkview at 7:30.

The winners meet Thursday for the championship at 7 p.m.

Class 8-3A Cumberland Regional

Class 8-4A Mount Zion Regional

 Effingham's season came to a close in opening round play of the Mount Zion Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs lost to Mount Zion, 41-18. Mount Zion zipped out to a 12-1 opening quarter lead and led 16-6 at halftime.

Effingham was led by Jake NIebrugge with 11 points.

In the second game, Charleston won over Taylorville, 55-45 and the third contest went to Mattoon over Stephen Decatur, 37-31.

Mount Zion will now meet Rochester at 6 p.m. Wednesday while Charleston takes on Mattoon at 7:30.  The winners will square off for the championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 8-4A Mount Zion Regional

Fifth/Sixth Grade

North Clay finished second in the Clay City Sixth-Grade Toruanment.

North Clay beat Allendale, 39-21 and won over Clay City, 35-25. St. Thomas then edged North Clay in the championship, 32-31.
