St. Anthony Advances To NTC Title Game, SEB To Consy Championship

ALTAMONT -- The finals are all set for Saturday after Friday evening action at the National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament.

In the first game of the evening, St. Elmo/Brownstown won over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 53-50.

The Cougars took a 15-14 opening quarter lead but St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with a 13-9 second period run to lead 27-24 at halftime.

Then here came South Central. The Cougars had an 18-11 third period to lead 42-38.

But St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with a 15-8 final quarter to pull out the 53-50 win.

The Eagles shot 58 percent from the field and 62 percent from the free throw line. Caleb Campbell led the way with 18 points while Jarrett Pasley added 13. Campbell hit six of nine field goals, all three-pointers. SEB finished with 10 three-pointers in the game, six by Campbell.

Adam Atwood led in rebounds with 12 and assists with four. Cade Schaub had two steals.

South Central was led by Aidan Dodson with 25 points on 10 field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of five at the line. Ethan Watwood added 16 points. Anthony Buonaura led in rebounds with four and assists with four. Dodson had three steals.

Effingham St. Anthony then advanced to the championship game with a 60-43 win over North Clay (Louisville).

The Cardinals actually edged out to a 14-13 opening quarter lead as Levi Smith connected on seven points.

Brock Fearday, meanwhile, also had seven points for the Bulldogs.

St. Anthony then started a run with a 17-8 second period. B. Fearday knocked in two three-pointers while Ryan Schmidt also hit two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight.

The Bulldogs kept the pressure on in the third quarter, again scoring 17 points to lead 47-32 going into the final period. Schmidt again tallied eight points on two baskets and tthree of three at the line.

The final period also went to St. Anthony on a 13-11 edge.

Schmidt finished with 25 points to lead the Bulldogs on eight field goals, three of those three-pointers, and six of six at the line. B. Fearday added 15 points.

North Clay was led by Logan Fleener with 13 points and Smith with 10.

Today's games find Neoga against South Central at 11:30 a.m. for seventh place followed by Windsor/Stew-Stras taking on St. Elmo/Brownstown at 1 for the consolation championship. The third place game will be between North Clay and Dieterich at 2:30. The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. wiith defending champion Altamont and St. Anthony.
