Neoga Downs CHBC In NTC Tourney Opener, Two Games At LIC Tourney

ALTAMONT -- Neoga High School picked up the first victory in the 87th Annual National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening at Altamont High School.

The Indians edged out to an 18-11 opening quarter lead as Brady Reynolds knocked in two three-pointers, Quintin Richards connected on a three-pointer and two free throws while Bryar Hennesay also hit a three-pointer.

The score slowed down for both teams in the second quarter as Neoga outscored CHBC 9-6 to lead 27-17 at halftime.

Scoring picked up in the third period. Neoga went on a 19-14 run, connecting on nine of 11 free throws. Richards hit six of seven while Trey Sheehan hit a basket and was three of three at the line. Landon Titus scored five on a regular basket and a free throw and Reynolds put in his third three-pointer.

Kaidyn Calame nailed two three-pointers in the quarter for the Bobcats.

Neoga continued on with a 15-12 final period.

Reynolds finished with 19 points for Neoga on five baskets, four from three-point range, and five of eight at the line. Richards tallied 17 on two baskets, one a three-pointer, and 12 of 17 at the line. Sheehan added 11 points. The Indians finished with 23 of 34 free throws and improved to 7-13 on the season.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Clayton Wojcik with 15 points on six field goals and three of five at the line. AJ Radloff added 10 points. The Bobcats were six of 12 at the line. CHBC drops to 6-15.

The tournament will continue tonight with four games on tap. The two games from Wednesday evening were moved to tonight to avoid the winter storm coming in. Neoga will now face Altamont at 4 p.m. today followed by Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg against Dieterich at 5:30, North Clay against South Central at 7 and St. Anthony facing St. Elmo/Brownstown at 8:30.

The tourney will be taking Wednesday evening off due to the weather and return to play Thursday with the normal schedule.

LIC Tournament

Two games were contested at the Little Illini Conference Tournament Monday evening.

Robinson downed Marshall, 76-53 in the opener. In the second contest, Mount Carmel won over Paris, 59-49.

Tonight's games times have been changed. Newton will meet Casey-Westfield at 5 p.m. followed by Richland County facing Lawrenceville at 7:30.
