Dieterich, T-town Win; St. A, N. Clay Lose In Boys Basketball

DIETERICH -- In a Friday evening boys basketball contest, Dieterich High School tallied a 59-35 non-conference victory over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville.

The Movin' Maroons tore out to a 21-7 opening quarter lead and it was just a matter of time.

Three players hit double digits for the homestanders. Caleb Gephart led the way with 21 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of four at the line. Lucas Westendorf added 14 and Kolton Kidd chipped in with 13.

At Prairie Central

Teutopolis went calling at Prairie Central and came away with a 60-35 victory Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 12-9 opening quarter lead as Joey Niebrugge scored five points and Brendan Niebrugge knocked in a three-pointer.

T-town had an 18-12 second period to lead 30-21 at halftime. T-town continued on with a 17-10 third quarter.

B. Niebrugge tallied 22 points for the Shoes on seven field goals that included six three-pointers and was two of two at the line. Also in double figures was Caleb Siemer with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Joey Niebrugge had 10 rebounds.

The Wooden Shoes are now 16-4 on the season.

Prairie Central did not have a player in double figures.

At St. Joseph

Effingham St. Anthony High School fell to host St. Joseph-Ogden, 61-38 in Saturday boys basketball action.

St. Joseph-Ogden moved into an 18-5 opening quarter lead behind the scoring of Ty Pence with 16 of his team's 18 points.

The homestanders held a 28-13 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs came back in the third quarter with a 16-13 run as Brock Fearday scored eight points.

But the Spartans had a 20-9 final period surge for the winning margin. Pence finished with 31 points for the winners.

St. Anthony had one player in double figures, Brock Fearday with 12.

In junior varsity action, St. Joseph-Ogden won 63-54. Leading St. Anthony were Aidan Lauritzen with 13, Nick Ruholl with 11 and Will Fearday with 10.

At Louisville

Flora came calling and picked up a 50-26 win over North Clay (Louisville) Saturday.

Flora held a 20-10 halftime lead and led 30-17 going into the final quarter.

The Cardinals were playing without leading scorer Logan Fleener who was injured.

Levi Smith led with nine points and Alex Boose with eight.

In the junior varsity game, Flora was a 45-17 winner. Leading North Clay was Andrew Casolari with eight points.
