GREENVILLE -- Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony had different results at the James Burke Memorial Tournament Monday evening.

The Bullpups tallied a 27-18 win over Greenville in game two. St. Anthony took a 6-3 opening quarter lead and led 11-8 at halftime. G. Wilhour scored four points in the first period and nailed a three-pointer in the second.

Greenville then came back with an 8-2 third quarter run to pull ahead 16-13.

But St. Anthony got back in the scoring mode with a 14-2 final period for the win.

Wilhour tallied 12 points on four field goals that included a three-pointer and three free throws. W. Bierman added eight.

Effingham fell to Triad, 38-25 in game four.

Triad took an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 21-12 at halftime.

The Mustangs came back with a 6-2 third period to trail 23-18 going into the final quarter. But the Mustangs rallied to tie it at 23-23 with four minutes remaining in the contest. However, Triad went on a 15-2 run to win.

Carter Braddy led Effingham with 11 points.

Staunton beat Aviston 43-10 in the opening game. In the third contest, Salem downed Hillsboro 51-22.

Effingham will meet Hilslboro at 7 p.m. today while Aviston takes on Greenville at 6 p.m.

St. Anthony faces Staunton at 6 p.m. Thursday while Salem meets Triad at 7.

National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Tournament

Two games were contested Monday evening at the NTC Tourney.

North Clay (Louisville) won over Altamont, 46-25.

North Clay held a 14-10 opening quarter lead and led 25-17 at halftime. 

Leading the winners were Wolfe and Griffy with 13 points each and Schnepper with 10.

Altamont was led by Calvin Bannister with nine.

In the second contest, Dieterich edged Effingham Sacred Heart, 33-32.

The Shamrocks held a 5-2 opening quarter lead and led 13-11 at halftime. Dieterich came back with a 17-11 third quarter run to lead 28-24 and then had to hold off a challenge from Sacred Heart for the one-point victory.

Gavin Meinhart led  Dieterich 22 points on seven field goals and eight of 10 at the line.

Sacred Heart was led by Daegen Mooney with 12 points.

Dieterich advances to meet North Clay in the consolation championship Thursday at 5 p.m.

The tourney continues today with Stewardson-Strasburg facing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:15 and Sigel St. Michael meeting South Central at 7:30 in winner bracket action. The winners of those two games will play for the champoinship at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with the losers playing for third place at 6:15.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis split victories with Centralia Monday evening.

Centralia claimed the seventh-grade game, 46-26.

Centralia held a 24-16 halftime lead and had a 22-10 second half.

T-town was led by Jake Probst with 11 points.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town edged Centralia 44-41 in two overtimes.

Centralia led 13-7 after the opening quarter and 22-12 at halftime.

The Shoes came roaring back with a 16-8 third quarter to pull within 30-28 going into the final period. The Shoes then had a 10-8 run to knot the score at 38-38 sending the game into overtime. In the first overtime period, neither team scored. T-town then had a 6-3 second overtime.

Kendal Mette led with 15 points while Teagan Pals added 11.
