Wooden Shoes Drop Close Contest at Highland; Cumberland Wins At LPC Tourney

The Wooden Shoes held an 18-11 opening quarter lead as Kaylee Niebrugge scored 11 of her team's points with four baskets that included a three-pointer and two of two at the line.
T-town held that momentum through the second quarter with a 14-12 run to lead 32-23 at halftime. Niebrugge contributed five more points while Emily Konkel added three free throws.
The two teams played to a 12-12 third quarter. Then Alton took off in the final period, outscoring the Shoes 23-12 to pull out the two-point victory.
Laila Blakeny had scored 10 points through three quarters for Alton then went on a 10 point final quarter to finish with 20 points while Alyssa Lewis scored 12.
T-town was led by Niebrugge with 26 points on nine field goals, three from three-point range, and four of five at the line. Konkel tallied 12 points. Niebrugge also led in rebounds with 10. Gibson had one steal. Niebrugge and Summer Wall had one assist each.
In other games Monday, Waterloo edged Triad 47-46, Collinsville beat Belleville East 45-36 and Breese Mater Dei downed Highland 43-27.
The tournament continues tonight with Belleville West facing Nashville at 4 p.m. and Taylorville taking on Hillsboro at 5:30 in consolation bracket play. In winner bracket action, Okawville meets Breese Central at 7 and Bethalto Civic Memorial faces O'Fallon at 8:30.
Teutopolis drops into a 5 p.m. contest against Highland Thursday. The winner advances to the fifth place game scheduled for Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Little Prairie Conference Tournament
Cumberland captured a victory in the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament that the Pirates are hosting Monday.
The Pirates edged out to a 6-4 lead on Arcola then pushed that to 18-8 at halftime. Arcola came back with a 13-6 third quarter to pull within 24-21 but the two teams then played to a 9-9 final quarter.
Abbie Becker led the Pirates with 16 points while Katelyn Shoemaker added 12.
In other contests, Tri-County beat Argenta-Oreana 65-10, Okaw Valley downed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 38-33 and Cerro Gordo-Bement won over Decatur LSA 55-27.
The tourney continues Wednesday with Argenta-Oreana gainst Arcola at 6 and ALAH taking on Decatur LSA at 7:30 in consolation bracket play.
Cumberland will face Tri-County Thursday at 6 p.m. and Okaw Valley meets Cerro Gordo-Bement at 7:30 in winner bracket action. The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. while the losers meet for third place at 4.
