WSS, St. A, BSE, N. Clay Win NTC Girls Tourney Openers

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the opening contest Monday, downing South Central 40-35.
The Cougars took a 9-4 opening quarter lead on WSS as Taegan Webster scored six points. But the Hatchets came roaring back with a 22-8 second quarter run to lead 26-17 at halftime as Ella Kinkelaar started connecting.
She hit a three-pointer in the opening quarter before scoring 10 of her team's 22 points on three baskets that included two three-pointers and two of four at the line. Morgan Mathis nailed two three-pointers.
South Central had a slight 7-6 third quarter and finished with an 11-8 final period but couldn't get over that second quarter surge by the Hatchets.
Kinkelaar finished with 17 points for the winners. Sam Hayes chipped in with eight.
South Central was led by Brooklyn Garrett and Webster with 14 points each.
The second contset went to Effingham St. Anthony over Dieterich, 64-36.
The Bulldogs stepped out to a 20-17 opening quarter lead and never looked back.
Four players hit double figures for St. Anthony. Stacie Vonderheide led the way with 16 points on eight field goals. Also in double figures were Lucy Fearday with 14, Nancy Ruholl with 12 and Anna Faber with 11.
Dieterich was led by Courtney Brummer with 12 and Estella Meinhart with 11.
Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed a 47-43 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the third contest.
BSE edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead and led 30-22 at halftime. CHBC came back with a 13-6 third quarter run but BSE finished strong.
Lexi Sebaugh tallied 15 points for the winners while Laney Baldrige added nine.
CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with 22 points and Macee Rodman with nine.
In the final game of the day, North Clay (Louisville) downed Altamont, 49-37.
The Cardinals edged out to a 12-11 opening quarter lead and held that one point margin at halftime, 22-21.
North Clay then took off with a 17-8 third quarter and had a 10-8 final period.
Miah Ballard led the way for the winners with 28 points on 12 field goals and four of eight at the line. Matia Price finished with 11.
Altamont was led by Skylie Klein with 12 and Kylie Osteen with nine.
The tournament continues Wednesday with top-seeded Neoga taking on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 5:30 p.m. followed by Dieterich meeting South Central at 7 and Altamont taking on the loser of Neoga vs. WSS at 8:30.
