Effingham and Casey-Westfield split seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball victories Saturday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 45-19 by ripping out to a 21-5 opening quarter lead.

Jenner Pals led the way with 16 points while Carson Fox added 10 and Ian Kinkelaar eight.

Effingham is now 15-6 on the season and won't return to action until Saturday in the Rochester Regional against Stephen Decatur.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham remained pretty even with Casey-Westfield through the first half, trailing only 12-9. But Casey-Westfield took off with a 23-11 second half for the 35-20 win.

Giovanni Santillian was the lone EJHS player in double figures with 11.

Casey-Westfield improved to 18-1 on the season.

At Newton

Teutopolis picked up a 47-37 seventh-grade victory over Jasper County Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes took a 27-18 halftime lead. Jasper County came back with an 11-7 third quarter but T-town got back on track with a 13-8 final period.

Jake Probst led with 19 points and had seven rebounds and six steals. Eric Weidner had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Jasper County was led by Wolf with 14 and Mulvey with 12.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town picked up a 56-25 win.

The Shoes led 27-13 at halftime.

Teagan Pals and Jake Kocher scored eight points each to lead the Shoes.

Jasper County was led by Mulvey with eight.

At Newton

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) hosted a fifth-grade tournament and finished sixth.

First round scores were: Neoga 31, North Clay 23; Flora 41, Clay City 8, Patoka 39, Red Hill 12 and Dieterich 30, Sigel St. Michael 28.

Saturday scores were Flora 36, Neoga 4; Patoka 28, Dieterich 21; North Clay 22, Clay City 21 and Sigel St. Michael 23, Red Hill 22.

The championship went to Patoka over Flora, 21-19. Dieterich claimed the third place game over Neoga, 28-6. The consolation championship went to St. Michael over North Clay, 27-20.
