Effingham 55, Taylorville 53

(The Hearts saw Taylorville make 10 three-pointers in the first half and fall behind by as many as 13 points before the shots stopped falling and Effingham could mount a comeback. The Hearts were down 16-8 after one quarter and 34-24 at halftime, but outscored the Tornadoes 12-3 in the third quarter to pull within 37-36 heading to the fourth quarter. The Hearts got up by two before Taylorville got some momentum and pulled back ahead by seven. Effingham came back again and outscored the Tornadoes 19-16 in the period to win the game by two points. The Hearts had won at Taylorville 60-57 on December 1. Garrett Wolfe led Effingham with 21 points, while Logan Heil scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Andrew Splechter scored 10 points and had four assists. Gunner Brown scored four points, Andrew Donaldson three polnts with eight rebounds, and Spencer Fox one point but with seven rebounds. Effingham made 20 of 50 shots for 40% including 4 of 18 threes, hit 11 of 17 free throws, turned the ball over 14 times but just six times in the second half, and grabbed 37 rebounds. Taylorville shot 40% including 12 of 24 threes but just 2 of 10 threes in the second half, went 3 for 8 at the line, pulled down 28 rebounds, but turned the ball over 18 times. The Hearts are now 7-13, 4-3 in Apollo Conference play, while Taylorville is 1-17, 0-7 in the conference. The contest was heard on KJ Country 102.3)

St Anthony  56, Breese Mater Dei  52 

(Two players hit double figures as St. Anthony edged Mater Dei. The Bulldogs trailed Mater Dei 22-15 after the opening quarter and 32-29 at halftime. Mater Dei still held the lead going into the final quarter, 42-39. St. Anthony came roaring back with a 17-10 final period to pull out the four-point victory. In that run, Max Koenig scored all seven of his total points in that final quarter run. He connected on a field goal and was four of four at the line. Griffin Sehy tallied five in the final period with a basket and three of five at the line. Brock Fearday nailed a three-pointer and Collin Westendorf scored a basket. Sehy led the way with 18 points while Westendorf added 17. Also scoring were Fearday 7, Martelli 5 and Schmidt 2. In the junior varsity game, St. Anthony was a 46-30 winner. Nick Ruholl tallied 12 and Sam Link 11.)

Altamont 61,  North Clay (Louisville)  43 

(Altamont held a 16-13 first quarter and were never headed in this battle of two NTC unbeatens. The Indians pushed the lead to 30-21 at halftime, and were up 43-29 heading for the fourth quarter. An 18-14 Altamont edge in the final period secured the 18-point win. Three Altamont players finished in double figures, led by Mason Robinson with 19 points. Avery Jahraus scored 15 points and Eric Kollmann had 14 points. Others scoring were Elam 5, Eirhart 4, Hammer 2 and Miller 2. Logan Fleener scored 23 points to lead the Cardinals and Alex Boose added 12 points. Others scoring were Zimdars 4 and Smith 4. Altamont improved to 15-3 on the season. The game was heard on Classic Hits 979XFM. In the junior varsity game, Altamont claimed a 64-38 victory. Aden McManaway scored 20, Kaden Davis 14 and Kaidyn Miller 12. North Clay was led by Jesse Weidner and Carder Walden with eight each.)

Cumberland  44,  Villa Grove 35 

(Villa Grove held an 11-8 opening quarter lead and led 18-14 at halftime. Villa Grove led by two points going into the final quarter. The Pirates then got untracked with a 19-8 run. In that run, Gavin Hendrix scored 10 points on four field goals and two free throws while Trevin Magee added six, Bryant  Weber a basket and Maddox McElravy a free throw. Hendrix finished with 27 while Magee added 12, McElravy three and Weber two.)

Dieterich 37,  South Central  30

(It was 12-12 after one quarter and 20-20 at halftime. Dieterich outscored South Central 17-10 in the second half to post the win. Aidan Dodson scored 17 points for the Cougars but no other player scored more than three points. Anderson had 3, Watwood 2, Magnus 2, Buonaura 2, Bergmann 2, J. Smith 2. South Central slipped to 13-6. Lucas Westendorf led Dieterich with 12 points and Kolton Kidd scored 10. Others scoring were Gephart 7, Funneman 4, C. Will 4)

St Elmo/Brownstown  67,  Patoka/Odin  41

(SEB poured in 22 first quarter points on the way to the victory, and led the game 40-23 at halftime. Caleb Campbell led SEB with 23 points, while Adam Atwood scored 17 points and Cade Schaub added 14 points. Others scoring were   Pasley 7, Wyatt Stine 4, Josiah Maxey 2. St. Elmo/Brownstown improved to 12-5 with the win)

Windsor/Stew Stras 74, Ramsey 45

(The Hatchets were up 20-8 after one quarter and never looked back. Five players were in double figures for WSS: Carter Chaney 19, Austin Wittenberg 16, Jordan Wittenberg 13, Rhett Rincker 10 and Jackson Gurgel 10. Others scoring were Gracey 4, and Curry 2. Windsor/Stew-Stras is now 16-4 on the season)

Lawrenceville defeated Newton
