MARTINSVILLE --  Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg swept out to big scoring first and second quarters to hold a 34-7 halftime lead on Martinsville and went on for a 59-22 girls basketball victory Tuesday evening.

Ella Kinkelaar tallied five in the opening quarter and knocked in two three-pointers in the second period run. Sam Hayes scored six points in the second period and Morgan Mathis nailed a three-pointer.

The Hatchets continued with a 25-15 second half. Kinkelaar scored six more and finished with 17 to lead the Hatchets. She connected on six field goals, two of those three-pointersm and three of four at the line.

Also in double digits was Hayes with 15.

At Dieterich

The Dieterich Movin' Maroons did move in the right direction with a 20-1 opening quarter lead on Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville and tallied a 51-30 victory Tuesday.

Dieterich's Miley Britton was hot in the opening quarter, connecting on a three-pointer and three regular baskets for nine points. Cortney Brummer also was connecting with two baskets and three of three at the line for seven points.

Britton and Brummer continued in the second quarter with four points each as the Maroons took a 30-11 halftime lead.

Dieterich finished with Britton in double figures with 19 points on eight field goals, one from three-point range, and two of five at the line. Brummer added 13.

In junior varsity play, Dieterich won 23-11. Leading the Maroons was Addison Miller with six points.

At Taylorville

Effingham High School fell to a tough Taylorvile squad by a 68-33 tally Tuesday evening.

The Tornadoes edged out to a 9-6 opening quarter lead then had a 22-14 second period run as Kyleigh Heimsness nailed three trifectas while Addison Tarr scored eight points.

Taylorville held a 31-20 halftime lead. The Tornadoes then went on a 19-8 third quarter run and finished out with an 18-5 count.

Tarr scored 23 while Heimsness added 16 and Mazie Fleming 10 for the Tornadoes. Taylorville hit nine three-pointers, five coming from Heimsness.

Leading Effingham were Madison Mapes and Ella Niebrugge with 10 points each. EHS dropped to 13-6 while Taylorville is now 15-3.

In junior varsity action, Effingham was a 54-33 winner. Averie Wolfe tallied 13 points while Alyssa Martin added 12 to lead the Hearts.
