Six Games Contested In N. Clay Shootout, Area Saturday Boys Contests

LOUISVILLE -- There were six games contested at the North Clay (Louisville) Boys Basketball Shootout Saturday.

In the opening contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Grayville, 79-47.

The Eagles soared out to a 25-11 opening quarter lead and led 49-25 at halftime. SEB had a 25-12 third quarter.

Jarrett Pasley led the winners in scoring with 23 points on seven field goals that included five three-pointers and was four of seven as the line. Cade Schaub added 17 and Caleb Campbell 13. Campbell had five field goals, three of those three-pointers.

Schaub led in rebounds with six while Adam Atwood pulled down five. Atwood led in assists with eight and Pasley had seven. Campbell and Atwood had five steals each.

The Eagles connected on 51 percent from the field and 88 percent from the line.

The second game went to Lawrenceville over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 68-25.

Dieterich beat Ramsey in the third contest, 49-32.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead but led 22-16 at halftime. Lucas Westendorf scored four points in the opening quarter and six in the second period for 10 at halftime. 

Westendorf continued on with six third quarter points as Dieterich had a 14-9 run to lead 36-25. Dieterich finished strong with a 13-7 final period as Westendorf chipped in six more. He finished with 22 on nine field goals and four of four at the line.

The fourth contest went to Cisne over Patoka 73-41. Sandoval then downed Oblong/Paletine/Hutsonville 56-47 in game five.

In the final game of the event, North Clay won over Edwards County (Albion) by a 71-50 score.

The Cardinals edged out to an 18-15 opening quarter lead then opened the game up with a 20-8 second period to lead 38-24 at halftime.

Logan Fleener led the way for North Clay with 22 points on 10 field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of one at the line. Cody Zimdars added 15 points on five field goals, four of those from three-point land, and one of two at the line. Levi Smith contributed 13 points.

North Clay is now 11-4 on the season.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony's Brock Fearday connected on nine field goals that included three trifectas and was a perfect four of four at the line for 25 points as the Bulldogs handed Paris a 55-23 loss Saturday.

The Bulldogs ripped out to an 18-3 opening quarter lead behind Ryan Schmidt's six points and Fearday's five. Fearday then went on a 10-point second quarter run and the Bulldogs held a 36-7 halftime lead.

Griffin Sehy was on the verge of double figures with nine points.

At Altamont

Altamont claimed an easy win over Woodlawn in non-conference action Saturday, 65-23.

The Indians ran off to a 20-4 opening quarter lead as six players scored in the contest, Eric Kollmann and Kaidyn Miller had four points each.

Mason Robinson got on a roll in the second quarter with nine points while Avery Jahraus ended with eight.

Jahraus added his fourth three-pointer in the third quarter and finished with 14 points for the contest. Robinson was the second player in double figures with 11. Nine other players contributed points in the contest. The Indians are now 13-3 on the season.

Altamont also nabbed the junior vasrity game, 76-41.

At St. Joseph

Newton fell to Monticello in the Christie Shootout at St. Joseph-Ogden Saturday.

The Eagles took the opening quarter lead with a 22-18 run but Monticello came back to lead 39-34 at halftime. Monticello then had a 41-24 second half. Monticello hit 18 three-pointers in the contest led by Welton with seven.

Caden Nichols led Newton with 20 points while Dylan Gier added 15 and Parker Wolf 14.

Newton is 12-5 on the season and returns to action at Effingham Tuesday.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis easily handled Warrensburg-Latham, 68-31 in Saturday action.

The Wooden Shoes roared out to a 22-6 opening quarter lead and that was the contest.

Four players hit double digits for the winners. James Niebrugge scored 18 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of four at the line. Garrett Gaddis added 12 points while Brendan Niebrugge and Caleb Siemer had 11 points each. Gaddis had four three-pointers while B. Niebrugge had three.

The Shoes finished with 10  three-pointers in the game.

Siemer had 10 assists while Joey Niebrugge led in rebounds with eight.

The Shoes are now 14-2 on the season.
