BOYS SCORES FROM FRIDAY, JANUARY 6:

Mt Zion 59,  Effingham 48 (the Hearts hit several three-pointers to take an early lead, but Mt. Zion started scoring and pulled within 18-15 at the end of the first period. The Braves outscored the Hearts 30-18 over the middle two quarters and were up 45-34 heading to the final period. A 14-14 standoff resulted in the 11-point win for Mt. Zion. The Hearts made 38% of their shots, 17 of 45, including 9 of 18 threes. Effingham made five of nine foul shots, grabbed 28 rebounds and turned the ball over 15 times. Mt. Zion shot 42% from the field, 25 of 59, including 1 of 16 threes. The Braves pulled down 30 rebounds and turned the ball over just five times. Andrew Donaldson made five threes for 15 points and Andrew Splechter added 11 points. Also for Effingham: Garrett Wolfe 9, Logan Heil and Gunner Brown 6 each, and Spencer Fox 1. Carson Cuddy led Mt. Zion with 15 points, while Lyncoln Koester added 14 and Grant McAtee scored 10. Mt. Zion is now 16-2 on the season, 6-0 in the Apollo, while Effingham dropped to 6-12. Mt. Zion won the JV game 55-46)

Altamont 74, Dieterich 59 (Altamont exploded to a 25-16 lead after the first quarter and were never headed; Avery Jahraus led Altamont with 24 points; also in double figures were Kienon Eirhart with 12 points and Dillan Elam with 10; for Dieterich, Lucas Westendorf scored 18 and Caleb Gephart 17; Altamont is 12-3 and 2-0 in the NTC)

South Central 53, Cisne 51 (for the Cougars, Dodson 14, Watwood 13, and Anderson 12; South Central improved to 13-4)
