S. Central's Garrett Reaches 1,000 Points; WSS Wins, BSE Falls

FARINA -- South Central High School's Brooklyn Garrett went over 1,000 points in her career when the Cougars trounced Martinsville, 74-16 Monday evening.

Garrett finished with 23 points in the contest, connecting on 10 field goals that included two three-pointers and was one of four at the free throw line. Her 1,000th point came in the third quarter when she connected on a three-pointer.

South Central ripped out to a 23-5 opening quarter lead and led 38-13 at halftime.

Taegan Webster led the Cougars with 26 points on 13 field goals.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead and went on for a 47-35 win over Cumberland Monday.

Four players scored for the Hatchets in the opening quarter surge. Ella Kinkelaar hit a three-pointer and a free throw while Sam Hayes connected on a three-pointer and a regular basket, Ava Richards tallied five points and Morgan Mathis hit a three-pointer.

Cumberland came back with a 10-8 second period as Abbie Becker scored a three-pointer and two free throws for five points.

But WSS went on an 18-11 third quarter run as Hayes scored eight points and Serenity Weeden six. Cumberland came back with an 8-4 final quarter but couldn't make up that first quarter lead.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Hayes' 13 points while Richards and Wittenberg added nine each and Weeden eight.

Cumberland was led by Becker with 18 points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo traveled to Nokomis and fell to the homestanders by a 60-38 count Monday evening.

The Redskins took a 12-4 opening quarter lead and led 27-9 at halftime. BSE tallied 29 points in the second half but Nokomis finished with 32.

Only one player scored in double figures for BSE. Lexi Seabaugh scored 10 points on three baskets, one a three-pointer, and three of four at the line. Laney Baldrige and Sydney Stine tallied eight each.

At Arthur

Mount Zion claimed the championship of the Arthur Knights Holiday Classic Monday evening.

In the first three semifinal games, Mount Zion beat Chrisman 62-12; Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond won over Heritage 66-13 and Shelbyville downed Decatur Eisenhower 59-47

In the championship, Mount Zion beat ALAH 57-49. The third place contest went to Chrisman over Heritage, 44-32.
