Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic

At Effingham Main Gym

Game 26 – Charleston 59, Mattoon 45 (11th place)

Game 28 – Effingham 55, Oaklawn 46 (Seventh Place) (The Hearts were down by nine, 20-11, after one quarter, and a 9-9 second quarter standoff left the Spartans in front 29-20 at halftime. The Hearts regrouped in the second half, outscoring Oak Lawn 11-6 in the third quarter to sit within 35-31 heading to the final period, and poured in 24 fourth quarter points to 11 for the Spartans to win by nine. Effingham shot 41% from the field, 17 of 41, including four of 10 threes, and made 17 of 24 free throws. Effingham's Andrew Splechter led all scorers with 24 points on six of nine shooting and hitting 11 of 16 foul shots. Garrett Wolfe scored Effingham's first 11 points and finished with 18 points. Also scoring for the Hearts: Gunner Brown 9, and Logan Heil and Spencer Fox 2 each. The Hearts went 2-2 in the tournament and got 7th place honors)

Game 29 – Champaign Centennial  52,  Chicago Brooks 48  (Fifth Place)

Game 30 – Highland  58,   Lutheran North  45  (Consolation Championship)

Game 31 – Pleasant Plains 52,  St. Anthony 43  (Final in OT)  (Third Place) (St. Anthony was down 14-6 after one quarter, and a 7-7 second quarter left it at 21-13 Plains at intermission. The Bulldogs broke through in the third quarter, outscoring Plains 14-8, to pull within 29-27, and posted a 10-8 edge in the fourth period to force the overtime tied at 37-37. Plains regrouped though and outscored the Bulldogs 15-6 in the four minute overtime to post the nine-point win. Collin Westendorf led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Also for St. Anthony: Max Koenig 8, Brock Fearday 6, Michael Martelli and Ryan Schmidt 5 each, and Adam Rudibaugh 3. St. Anthony made 15 of 36 shots including five threes, and hit eight of 10 foul shots. St. Anthony went 2-2 for the tournament. The Bulldogs are now 10-6 on the season. 

Game 32 – Lincoln Way East 56,  Teutopolis 38  (Championship) (Lincoln Way East led start to finish, busting out to a 7-0 lead and were up 29-24 at halftime after a 9-9 second quarter.. The third quarter was the clincher as the Griffins outscored the Wooden Shoes 15-3 in the period to take a 17-point lead. The Shoes made 13 of 34 shots including 2 of 13 threes. T-Town made 10 of 17 free throws. The Griffins shot 50% from the field, 22 of 44, including six of 15 threes. James Niebrugge led Teutopolis with 10 points, while Brendan Niebrugge added nine points and Joey Niebrugge eight points. Caleb Siemer, Garrett Gaddis and Tyler Pruemer each scored three points, and Logan Roepke added two points. Teutopolis went 3-1 for the tournament and now stand at 12-2 on the season)

Game 25 -- Knoxville 45, Belvidere 44 (OT) (15th place)

Game 27 – Newton 59, Dixon 53 (13th place)

The Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic All-Tournament Team included Ayham Salah of Oak Lawn, Anthony Vaval of Brooks, Preston Sledge of Centennial, Bryce Spiller of Lutheran North, Cade Altadonna of Highland, Collin Westendorf of St. Anthony, Zach Powell of Pleasant Plains, Garrett Wolfe of Effingham, Caleb Oakley of Charleston, Dylan Gier of Newton, Caleb Siemer of Teutopolis, Kyle Olagbegi of Lincoln Way East, George Bellevue of Lincoln Way East, James Niebrugge of Teutopolis, and Tylon Tolliver of Lincoln Way East.

Last night's championship game was video streamed. We had over 400 viewers at one time at our peak.
