EHS Wins Then Falls To T-town at CHS Tourney, St. A, Altamont Open Play At Mattoon

EHS opened with a 74-17 win over the Trojans. The Hearts took charge early with a 22-2 opening quarter and led 44-9 at halftime.
Three players scored in double figures for EHS. Bria Beals led the way with 20 points on eight field goals, two of those three-pointers, and two of five at the line. Saige Althoff chipped in with 14 and Alyssa Martin added 12.
Effingham then faced Teutopolis and the Wooden Shoes claimed a 42-36 victory.
T-town ripped out to a 13-2 opening quarter lead as Kaylee Niebrugge scored five points and Courtney Gibson four. The Shoes then had an 8-6 second period to lead 21-8 at halftime. The two teams played to a 10-10 third quarter. The Hearts came back with an 18-11 final quarter run only to fall short. Beals connected on two three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 points.
But the Wooden Shoes hit their free throws with seven of 10 in the quarter.
Niebrugge was the lone T-town player in double figures with 16 while Emily Konkel and Summer Wall added nine each. Niebrugge pulled down nine rebounds. Courtney Gibson had four steals and two assists. Chloe Probst also had two assists.
Effingham was led by Beals with 17 points on seven field goals, three of those trifectas. Martin finished with nine points.
In other games, Tri-County won over Danville 54-14 and beat Jacksonville 41-25.
EHS is 4-1 in the tourney while T-town is 3-0, Jacksonville 2-2, Tri-County 2-1 and Charleston and Danville 0-3 each.
The round robin tournament comes to a close today as Teutopolis faces Jacksonville at 1:30 p.m. and Tri-County at 6 while Effingham takes on Danville at 4:30. Charleston and Danville open the day at noon and the Trojans will face Tri-County at 3.

At Mattoon
Effingham St. Anthony and Altamont opened play in the 43rd Annual Mattoon Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Tuesday.
In the first game of the day, Champaign Central downed St. Anthony, 64-52. The Bulldogs then played the final game of the day and won 61-47 over Sullivan.
Altamont dropped losses to Mattoon 48-35 and Mahomet-Seymour 49-26.
In the Mattoon contest, the Indians held a 13-10 opening quarter lead but Mattoon came back to move ahead 21-17 at halftime then take a 27-18 second half run.
Remi Miller led Altamont with seven points.
Mahomet-Seymour moved ahead 31-12 by halftime and had an 18-14 second half.
Altamont was ed by Peyton Osteen with nine points.
In other games, Mahomet-Seymour defeated Richland County 59-26, Galesburg won over Sullivan 55-30 and Champaign Central 65-60 and Mattoon defeated Richland County 56-45.
The tournament continues today. St. Anthony is playing Galesburg at 10 a.m. while Altamont will meet Richland County at 11:30. Champaign Central and Sullivan played early and Mattoon against Mahomet-Seymour was the 1 p.m. game.
The second session, starting at 4 p.m., will feature the pool first through fourth places squaring off. The tourney will end Thursday.
