BSE To Play For Dieterich Girls Tourney Title

BSE claimed a victory and suffered a loss in Tuesday action.
South Central handed Brownstown/St. Elmo its lone loss in the two days of play. The Cougars edged out to a 14-13 opening quarter lead and led 24-19 at halftime.
BSE came back with a 15-7 third quarter run to move into a 34-31 lead going into the final period. But South Central rallied and came back with an 18-12 tally to claim the 49-46 victory.
Taegan Webster led the Cougars with 21 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and eight of 10 at the line. Brooklyn Garrett also finished in double figures with 16. The cougars hits 21 of 32 free throws while BSE was nine of 16.
BSE was led by Jayna Ireland with 14 and Laney Baldrige with 12.
BSE then came back later to edge Newton, 38-36.
The Eagles held a 7-5 opening quarter lead but BSE moved ahead 16-12 at halftime. Newton outscored BSE 25-23 in the second half but it wasn't enough.
Lexi Seabaugh and Ireland scored 10 points each for the winners.
Newton was led by Karasyn Martin with 12 and Camryn Martin with 11.
South Central fell in the opening contest of the day to Casey-Westfield, 54-51.
The Warriors held a two-point lead at halftime then went on a 12-4 third quarter run and held off South Central.
Ellie Shull led the Warriors with 20 points while Kamryn Smith added 13 and Grace Towles 11.
South Central's Garrett hit eight two-pointers and was 13 of 17 at the line for 29 points. Webster contributed 18.
In the final game of the day, Dieterich won over Arcola, 38-36.
The Movin' Maroons took a one point first quarter lead and led 20-18 at halftime. The two teams scored 18 points each in the second half.
Cortney Brummer led Dieterich with 12 points while Miley Britton added 10.
In other games, Marshall won over Red Hill (Bridgeport) 63-21 and Marshall edged Arcola 52-51.
Today's finals have Red Hill against South Central for seventh place at 1 p.m. Arcola taking on Casey-Westfield at 2:30 for fifth place, Dieterich against Newton at 4 for third place and the championship, featuring BSE and Marshall, at 6.
