Dieterich, S. Central To Play For Boys Tourney Championship

DIETERICH -- The championship game at the Dieterich Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament will feature host Dieterich and South Central tonight.

South Central claimed two victories while Dieterich picked up a final win in Tuesday action.

The Cougars won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 77-68. The score was tied at 14-14 after the opening quarter but South Central went on a 28-14 second quarter run. That quater was the winner for the Cougars as CHBC came back in the second half with a 40-35 run.

Ethan Watwood and Aidan Dodson were the one-two scoring punch for the Cougars with 23 and 20 points respectively. Watwood connected on nine field goals, five of those from three-point range. Dodson had five field goals with one three-pointer and was nine of 12 at the line.

Also in double figures were Max Magnus and Anthony Buonaura with 11 each.

CHBC was also led by four players in double figures. Aj Radloff tallied 19 while Calyton Wojcik and trevor Thies scored 13 each and Gage Lorton finished out with 12.

The Cougars then won over Grayville, 56-35. In this contest, the Cougars ripped out to a 37-18 halftime lead and never looked back.

Dodson scored 31 points on 10 field goals, four from three-point range, and seven of 10 at the line. Watwood chipped in with 13 and Buonaura added 11.

Dieterich tallied its victory over Arcola in the final game of the day, 56-35.

The Movin' Maroons got on an opening quarter roll with a 15-1 run and led 27-14 at halftime. Dieterich finished strong with a 15-5 final period.

Lucas Westendorf scored 21 points on six field goals and seven of nine at the line. He connected on two three-pointers. Caleb Gephart finished with 19 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer and two of two at the line.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City opened the day with a 68-52 win over Red Hill (Bridgeport).

The Bobcats had a 19-6 opening quarter run and led 34-25 at halftime. CHBC then had a 34-27 second half run.

Four players scored in double figures for the Bobcats. Radloff finished with 21 points on 10 field goals and one of two at the line. Kaidyn Calame tallied 16 while Lorton added 12 and Wojcik 11.

In other games Tuesday, Sullivan beat Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville 53-44 and Arcola edged Sullivan 39-36

The tournament will come to a close today. Oblong/Paletine/Hutsonville will meet Red Hill at 1 p.m. for seventh place while CHBC will face Sullivan at 2:30 p.m. for fifth place. Arcola and Grayville square off for third place at four p.m. and Dieterich and South Central meet at 8 p.m. for the championship.
