Effingham St. Anthony handed Altamont Lutheran Interparish two losses in junior high boys basketball Monday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 43-40 in overtime.

Altamont Lutheran took a 5-1 opening quarter lead and led 13-10 at halftime. But the Bullpups came back with a 20-11 third quarter run to move ahead 30-24. Altamont Lutheran then had a 14-8 final period and the game was tied at 38-38 sending the contest into overtime.

In the overtime period, Conner Storm hit a basket and put in two free throws and Jonny Gannaway tallied a free throw and the Bullpups outscored Altamont Lutheran 5-2 for the 43-40 victory.

Storm finished with 20 points on eight field goals and four of eight at the line. The Bullpups are 14-4 on the season.

Altamont Lutheran was led by McManaway with 21 points and Lurkins with 12.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony edged Altamont Lutheran, 44-40.

The Bullpups took a 19-10 opening quarter lead but Altamont Lutheran came roaring back with a 13-2 second quarter behind Parker Bell's nine points to lead 23-20 at halftime.

But, here came the Bullpups with a 17-9 third quarter to pull ahead 38-32 heading into the final period and had a 9-8 run for the 47-40 victory.

M. Waldhoff scored 20 points while G. Wilhour added 18 for St. Anthony. The Bullpups are 9-7 on the season.

Altamont Lutheran was led by Bell with 15 points.

At Mattoon

Both Teutopolis teams scored 40 points each in downing Mattoon in Monday action.

The seventh-grade team was a 40-22 winner behind a 22-11 opening half lead.

Payne Davidson led the Wooden Shoes with 16 while Eric Weidner added 12.

In eighth-grade play, T-town won 40-28. The Shoes led 21-15 at halftime but only by four going into the final quarter. The Shoes then had a 12-4 run for the win.

Andy Lustig scored 11 while Kendall Mette and Jake Kocher added nine each.

At Farina

South Central played host to St. Elmo/Brownstown and picked up two victories Monday.

South Central was a 41-7 winner in seventh-grade play. South Central took an 18-7 halftime lead and held SEB scoreless in the second half while putting together 23 points.

Cartright led South Central with 20 points.

SEB was led by Dush, Tompkins and Ledbetter with two points each.

In the eighth-grade game, South Central was a 57-46 winner in overtime.

South Central edged out to a 13-10 opening quarter lead and led 27-21 at halftime as Sebastian Kruger tallied eight in the second quarter.

St. Elmo/Brownstown came roaring back with a 15-6 third period to pull ahead 36-33. Wollin scored six points for SEB.

But South Central came back with a 13-10 final period to knot the score at 46-46, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, South Central had an 11-0 run behind seven free throws and a basket for the 57-46 win.

Kruger finished with 17 points while Westin Neilson added 16 for the winners.

SEB was led by Wollin with 14 points while Willms added 12.

North Clay (Louisville) fell to Casey-Westfield in both games Monday.

Casey-Westfield won the seventh-grade contest 26-18.

Casey-Westfield also claimed the eighth-grade victory, 53-19. North Clay drops to 7-6.
