Bulldogs, Eagles, Shoes Win, Indians Split, EHS Loses

The Bulldogs took a 17-9 opening quarter lead then had a 6-5 edge in the second period. St. Anthony got back on the scoring trail with a 17-7 third quarter and had a 21-11 final period.
Ryan Schmidt tallie 19 points on eight field goals, one a three-potnier, and one of one at the line. Brock Fearday chipped in with 15 points on five field goals, one a three-poitner, and four of four at the line. The Bulldogs shot 12 of 14 free throws.
Dieterich was led by Caleb Gephart with 13 points as he hit five field goals, one from three-point range, and was two of two at the line.
In Saturday action, the Bulldogs claimed a 61-51 win over Charleston in overtime.
St. Anthony trailed Charleston 15-8 after the opening quarter but pulled within 20-16 at halftime. Charleston held a 38-30 lead after the third quarter but the Bulldogs had 16-8 final period run to tie the score and send the contest into overtime.
In the overtime period, St. Anthony had a 15-5 run as Collin Westendorf, Brock Fearday and Michael Martelli scored four points each.
Westendorf finished with 18 points while Fearday tallied 14 and Griffin Sehy 13.

At Altamont
Altamont ran out to a 39-16 halftime lead and went on for a 75-39 non-conference victory over Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine Friday.
Dillan Elam connected on four three-pointers in the opening quarter and went on to hit six and a regular basket in a 20-point game. Also in double figures were Kienon Eirhart with 12 and Avery Jahraus with 10.
The Altamont junior varsity was an 88-53 winner. Six players scored in double figures for the Indians. Eli Miller led with 16 while Kaidyn Miller had 13, Aden McManaway 12, Keegan Schultz 11, Ben Roedl 11 and Kaden Davis 11.
In a Saturday varsity game at the Greenville Shootout, Altamont fell to Breese Central, 63-42.
Breese Central held a 26-15 halftime lead then cut loose with a 37-27 second half run.
Dillan Elam and K. Miller led with 12 points each.

At Newton
Newton came out a winner in both Friday and Saturday ballgames.
The Eagles won the Friday contest over Robinson, 59-49. Robinson held a 23-22 halftime lead and led 32-30 going into the final quarter. Newton then got on a run, outscoring the Maroons 29-17 and pulling out the 10-point victory.
Caden Nichols led the way for Newton with 29 points on eight field goals that included four three-pointers and nine of 10 at the line. Also in double figures was Parker Wolf with 11.
In the Saturday game, Newton tallied a 75-61 win over Fairfield.
The Eagles led 30-29 at halftime then had an 18-15 third quarter and outscored the Mules 27-17 in the final period.
Nichols again led the way with 24 points on eight field goals, three from three-point range and five of five at the line. Wolf scored 17 points and led in rebounds with six. Dylan Gier added 12 points.
Newton is now 9-2 on the season and returns to action Tuesday at Charleston.

At Eureka
Teutopolis competed in the East Peoria/Eureka Shootout at Eureka College Saturday and came away a 56-48 winner over East Peoria.
The Wooden Shoes led 17-6 after the opening quarter and 23-17 at halftime. Garrett Gaddis tallied nine points in the first half.
The two teams played to a 12-12 third quarter but the Shoes came back with a 21-19 final period, connecting on 14 of 16 free throws. Gaddis hit a three-pointer and was four of four at the line. Brendan Niebrugge also connected on a basket and hit four of four from the line.
Gaddis tallied 16 while Joey Niebrugge had 13 and B. Niebrugge 10.

Lincoln held a 29-16 halftime lead and led 45-31 going into the final quarter. The Hearts had a 15-14 run but not enough to make up the deficit.
Garrett Wolfe led the way for the Hearts with 18 points on five field goals, three of those trifectas, and four of four at the line. Also in double figures was Andrew Donaldson with 12 and Logan Heil with 10.
