EHS Coach Jeff Schafer Ties All-Time Win Record; Girls Basketball Roundup

The Hearts and Bulldogs were tied at 14-14 after the opening quarter. St. Anthony's Lucy Fearday provided the big scoring for the Bulldogs with 10 of the 14 points. EHS was led by Madison Mapes with six.
But that was the last time the Bulldogs were to see daylight. The Hearts' Alyssa Martin broke loose with nine points on three baskets and three of four at the line while Mapes contributed seven and Bria Beals nailed two three-pointers. With that run the Hearts held a 36-24 halftime lead then had a 29-19 second half.
Mapes finished with 20 points on eight of 10 field goals and two of three at the line. She also pulled down five rebounds. Beals contributed 19 on seven of 12 from the field and led the squad in rebounds with seven. Martin added 15 points on six of eight from the field and three of four at the line. Ella Niebrugge contributed five rebounds.
The Hearts hit seven three-pointers in the game led by Beals with four and Mapes with two.
Effingham is now 9-2 on the season and is back in action tonight, playing host to a tough Lincoln squad in Apollo Conference play. With a win tonight, Coach Schafer will break Coach Jim Maxedon's record with 459 victories. Lincoln comes into the meeting with a perfect 4-0 conference mark and a 12-0 overall record.
St. Anthony had two players in double figures. Fearday finished with 19 on eight of 12 from the field and one of six from the free throw line. Nancy Ruholl added 14 points. Adysen Rios led the team in rebounds with eight. The Bulldogs drop to 10-2 on the season.

At Newton
Teutopolis rolled into Newton and handed the Eagles a 47-17 defeat Thursday evening.
The Wooden Shoes ripped out to a 17-3 opening quarter lead and held Newton scoreless in the second period for a 28-3 halftime tally.
Courtney Gibson and Summer Wall led the way for the Wooden Shoes with 10 points each. Gibson connected on two three-pointers. Kaylee Niebrugge chipped in with nine points. Emily Konkel and Gibson pulled down five rebounds each. Konkel led in steals with four.
Newton was led by Camryn Martin with six points. Lilly Kessler led in rebounds with 12.
Teutopolis also claimed the junior varsity game, 41-19. Newton was led by Addy O'Dell with 11.

At Toledo
Cumberland took the early lead and fought off Dieterich for a 57-52 victory Thursday evening.
The Pirates stepped out to a 13-4 opening quarter lead as Abbie Becker nailed three trifectas for nine points.
But Dieterich came back with a 15-9 second period to pull within 22-19 at halftime. Kady Tegeler scored six points while Estella Meinhart hit a basket and three free throws for five.
Dieterich came out after halftime with a 16-15 third quarter and stood within 37-35 going into the final period. In that final quarter, Paige Dittamore went to work for the Pirates hitting five baskets for 10 points and Becker added four of six from the free throw line for a 20-17 run and the five point victory.
Dittamore tallied 20 points while Becker added 19 with four three-pointers and seven of nine at the line and Katelyn Shoemaker finished with 10 for the winners.
Dieterich was led by Tegeler with 16 and Brummer with 12.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had a 20-10 final quarter to pull out a 62-58 win over Altamont Thursday evening.
The Indians took the early lead at 18-15 behind Grace Nelson's 13 points and held a one point lead at halftime, 30-29. CHBC's Gracie Heckert scored nine of the 14 points while Ruby Stuckemeyer added a three-pointer.
Altamont then had an 18-13 third quarter behind Claire Boehm and Nelson's seven points each. The Indians led 48-42 going into the final quarter.
That's when CHBC got on a run as Macee Rodman went to work with two three-pointers and two of two at the line while Heckert added five points, Carmen Olesen nailed a three-pointer and Mady Wojcik chipped in with four and the Bobcats pulled out the victory.
Heckert and Rodman were the one-two scoring punch for the Bobcats with 19 and 18 points respectively. Olesen contributed eight. Stuckemeyer led in rebounds with seven and Wojcik added six. Heckert had eight assists and three steals.
Altamont was led by Nelson with 30 points on 11 field goals, one a three-pointer, and seven of 10 at the line. Remi Miller added eight.
CHBC improved to 9-4 on the season.
Altamont won the junior varsity game, 38-25. Kaylee Lurkins led the way with 15 points. CHBC was led by Karlee Smith with 12.
