St. Michael Wins 8-1A State Title, BSE Finishes Fourth In 8-2A

Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell took the opening quarter lead, 7-2 but here came the Sharpshooters. The squad went on a 20-4 second period tear and captured a 30-22 victory.
Cara Hatton led the Sharpshooters with nine points while Brooklyn Will and Kailyn Gaddis added six points each. Gaddis finished with 23 total points at the state tournament.
St. Michael ended the season with a sparkling 24-2 record.
Third place went to Jerseyville St. Francis HG over Ottawa Marquette, 28-24.

Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed fourth place at the Class 8-2A State Tournament.
Class 8-2A State Tournament
Brownstown/St. Elmo went overtime but fell to Nokomis, 31-28 in the third place contest at the Class 8-2A State Tournament at Havana High School.
Both teams tallied four points in the opening quarter before Nokomis edged ahead 14-13 at halftime. Both teams scored six points in the third period. BSE came back with a 6-5 final quarter to knot the score at 25-25 sending the contest into overtime.
In the overtime period, Nokomis had a 6-3 edge for the victory.
Dayana Haslett led the way for BSE with 18 points while Madi Miller chipped in with six. Haslett finished with 51 total points at the state tournament.
The championship went to Paris Crestwood over Mount Sterling Brown County, 33-16.
