Cumberland, WSS Win At St. Elmo; Conrad Allen Tourney Finals Set

ST. ELMO -- Cumberland and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg were winners Wednesday evening at the 62nd Annual St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament.

Cumberland took the opener over Ramsey, 59-36.

Ramsey held an 8-6 opening quarter lead but the Pirates came back with a 12-10 second period to tie the score at 18-18 at halftime. Gavin Hendrix scored four baskets for eight of the 12 second quarter points.

Cumberland then got on a roll in the third quarter with a 23-10 run. Hendrix had just gotten started in the second quarter and put it into high gear with 11 of his team's 23 points in the third period. Jaxon Boldt and Garrett McElravy.added six points each.

The Pirates finished strong with an 18-8 final quarter.

Hendrix led the way with 10 field goals and a free throw for 21 points while McElravy added 13 and Boldt finished with 10.

In the second contest, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was an 81-34 winner over Patoka/Odin.

Three players scored in double figures for the Hatchets. Carter Chaney led the way with 21 points on nine field goals, three of those trifectas. Jordan Wittenberg tallied 17 on five field goals and a perfect seven of seven at the line and Austin Wittenberg added 13 on five field goals and two of two free throws.

The Hatchets didn't waste any time, ripping out to a 22-8 opening quarter lead. J. Wittenberg had 10 of those points while A. Wittenberg and Chaney had five with a three-pointer each.

WSS had a 21-10 second period to lead 43-18 at halftime and had a 24-14 third quarter as Chaney scored nine points.

The Hatchets improved to 7-2 on the season.

Cumberland and Windsor/Stew-Stras meet at 7:45 p.m. Friday for the right to advance to the championship game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Ramsey meets Patoka/Odin at 6:15 p.m. Friday to see who advances to the consolation championship.

Tonight's games feature Mulberry Grove against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:15 p.m. and St. Elmo/Brownstown against Hillsboro at 7:45.

Conrad Allen Holiday Tournament

Two games were contested Wednesday evening in the Conrad Allen Holiday Tournament.

Crab Orchard claimed a 58-44 win over Sandoval while Cisne downed Hamilton County JV, 49-25.

Tonight's games feature Grayville against Hamilton County JV at 5:30, Sandoval taking on South Central at 7 and Gallatin County going against Webber Township (Bluford) at 8:30. Friday's games have Crab Orchard meeting Edwards County at 5:30, North Clay against Cisne at 7 and Wayne City facing Lovejoy at 8:30. Those winners advance to Saturday's finals.
