Mount Vernon Beats EHS, Cumberland, N. Clay Win In Saturday Boys Games

The Rams took a 17-11 opening quarter lead and led 30-21 at halftime. The Hearts came back with a 16-12 third quarter run as Andrew Splechter hit two baskets and was four of five at the line for eight points.
But Mount Vernon got back on track with a 29-22 final period as the Rams connected on 13 of 15 free throws in the quarter and McClure scored 10 points and Nesbit seven.
Two players scored in double figures for the Hearts. Splechter tallied 17 on five field goals and seven of nine at the line while Garrett Wolfe chipped in with 15 on five field goals, two of those from the three-point line, and three of four free throws.

At Toledo
Cumberland picked up a 48-40 win over Neoga in non-conference action Saturday.
The Pirates edged out to a 10-8 opening quarter lead as Jaxon Boldt scored six and Gavin Hendrix four.
The lead went to 25-20 at halftime. But Neoga came back with a 14-6 third quarter surge as Quintin Richards scored seven points and James Bullock knocked in a three-pointer and the Indians led 34-31.
But Cumberland rallied and ran off a 17-6 final period score to claim the eight-point win. Hendrix scored five field goals and a free throw for 11 points while Trevin Magee hit a three-pointer.
Hendrix led with 23 points while Boldt added 12 for the winners.
Neoga was led by Richards with 16 and Brady Reynolds had 11.

At Wayne City
North Clay (Louisville) picked up a first round victory at the 68th Annual Conrad Allen Holiday Tournament Saturday.
The Cardinals faced Gallatin County and ran out to a 20-6 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 63-36 victory.
Logan Fleener led the way for North Clay with 25 points while Alex Boose added 17.
In other games, Cisne edged Webber Township (Bluford), 55-53, Wayne City won over Crab Orchard, 54-41 and Lovejoy downed Edwards County (Albion), 61-36.
The tournament continues tonight with Gallatin County against Grayville at 5:30, South Central meeting Edwards County at 7 and Webber Township taking on Hamilton County JV at 8:30.

Flora played host to Newton and edged the Eagles, 54-51 Saturday.
The Wolves took a 17-11 opening quarter lead but Newton came back to pull within 26-24 at halftime.
Flora and Newton then played to a 27-27 second half.
Tolliver scored 26 for the Wolves while Young added 11.
Newton was led by Caden Nichols with 20, Parker Wolf and Dylan Gier with 12 each.
Newotn is back in action Tuesday against St. Anthony. The Eagles are 6-2 on the season.
