Effingham St. Anthony picked up a National Trail Conference victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown in boys high school basketball action Friday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 20-14 opening quarter lead as Brock Fearday scored seven points. Jarrett Pasley led SEB with seven points.

The lead went to 39-23 at halftime as Jonathan Willenborg had eight points and Collin Westendorf added seven.

The Bulldogs had an 18-4 third quarter and the game was in the victory column.

Westendorf finished with 16 points on five field goals that included two three-pointers and four of four at the line. B. Fearday added 15 on four field goals, one a three-pointer and six of six at the line.

The Bulldogs finished with 18 of 23 free throws. They hit 78 percent from the free throw line and 55 percent from the field.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Pasley with 10 points on four field goals, two of those from three-point range. SEB dropped to 5-3 on the season.

SEB hit 30 percent from the free throw line with three of 10 and thirty-eight percent from the field. 

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony was a 57-38 winner. Leading the Bulldogs were Brady Hatton with 19 and Nick Ruholl with 15.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Mason and Maxey with nine each.

At Effingham

Mahomet-Seymour led the way the whole first half as Effingham struggled offensively Friday evening.

EHS trailed the Bulldogs by 11 points at halftime after scoring only 13 first half points.

The Hearts mounted a comeback in the second half, outscoring Mahomet-Seymour by 17 points and went on to pull out a 50-41 victory.

Three players finished in double figures for the Hearts. Logan Heil led the way with 16 while Andrew Splechter added 13 and Garrett Wolfe 10.

EHS is now back to .500 overall and stands at 3-0 in the Apollo Conference.

At Beecher City

Three players hit double figures for Dieterich as the Movin' Maroons tallied a 55-40 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in National Trail Conference play Friday.

Lucas Westendorf led the way for the Maroons with 18 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and seven of 14 at the line. Caleb Gephart added 14 and Kolton Kidd finished with 12.

Dieterich edged out to a 13-12 opening quarter lead and still led by only a point at the half, 25-24. Dieterich then took off with a 17-8 third quarter and had a 13-8 final period.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Clayton Wojcik with 11 and Gage Lorton with 10.

At Farina

Altamont was consistent throughout the contest in downing South Centarl, 72-45 in National Trail Conference play Friday.

The Indians edged out to a 19-14 opening quarter lead as Mason Robinson nailed three baskets and two free throws for eight points and Avery Jahraus hit a three-pointer.

The lead went to 37-26 at halftime as Jahraus continued his three-point barrage with two and added a regular basket for eight in the quarter. Robinson and Dillan Elam added a three-pointer each.

Jahraus continued knocking in three-pointers, scoring two in the third and two in the fourth for seven total for the game. He finished with 25 to lead the Indians. Robinson hit nine field goals, one a three-pointer and was four of four at the line for 23 points.

South Central was led by Seth Bergmann with 14 and Aidan Dodson with 13. The Cougars are 0-1 in the National Trail Conference, 3-2 overall.

Altamont won the junior varsity game. South Central claimed the freshman/sophomore match.

At Newton

Newton ran off to a 24-14 opening quarter lead and tallied a 66-57 non-conference win over North Clay (Louisville) Friday.

Four players hit double figures for the Eagles. Parker Wolf led the way with 20 points while Caden Nichols added 17, Kye Bergbower 11 and Dylan Gier 10.

North Clay was led by Cody Zimdars with 23 points and Logan Fleener with 21.

Both teams hit eight three-pointers. Bergbower and Nichols had three each for Newton while Zimdars had five and Fleener two for North Clay.

North Clay is now 4-4 on the season. Newton improved to 6-1.

In junior varsity play, Newton edged North Clay, 33-32. Earnest scored 10 for the winners. North Clay was led by Jesse Wiedner with 10. North Clay won the freshman/sophomore contest, 43-23.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to visiting Shelbyville, 64-59 Friday evening.

The Hatchets took a 15-9 opening quarter lead but Shelbyville tied at 27-27 at halftime. The Rams then moved ahead with a 16-12 in the third quarter and finished out with a 21-20 final period.

C. Wells led Shelbyville with 23 points while Jones had 11, E. Wells 10 and Hammond 10. The Rams are now 5-2.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Jordan Wittenberg with 24 and Austin Wittenberg with 17. The Hatchets drop to 6-2 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras tallied a 38-36 junior varsity victory.

Teutopolis had a 20-13 second quarter to push into a 26-24 halftime lead on Bloomington Central Catholic and went on for a 75-64 victory Friday.

Brendan Niebrugge hit two three-pointers in the opening quarter while James Niebrugge and Caleb Siemer had one each. J. Niebrugge knocked in eight points in the second period and B. Niebrugge added two more three-pointers.

The Shoes hit their free throws in the final period as they were 14 of 19.

B. Niebrugge and Siemer finished with 18 points each and J. Niebrugge added 17. The Wooden Shoes are now 6-1 on the season.

Neoga traveled to Sullivan and fell to the homestanders by a 49-41 count Friday.

Neoga edged out to a 12-11 opening quarter as Brady Reynolds hit three trifectas and James Bullock had one.

Sullivan edged ahead 23-21 at halftime but Neoga came back to lead 29-27 going into the final quarter. 

Sullivan then pulled out the victory with a 22-12 final period.

Neoga was led by Reynolds and Quintin Richards with 17 points each.
