EHS Falls, Altamont, Neoga Capture Girls H.S. Basketball Wins

MAHOMET -- Effingham High School fell to Mahomet-Seymour in girls high school basketball Friday evening, 46-26.
The Hearts took the opening quarter lead 12-10 as Ella Niebrugge scored five points and Saige Althoff four. But Mahomet-Seymour came charging back with an 11-2 second period to lead 21-14 at halftime.
Effingham could never recover and the Bulldogs had a 25-12 second half.
Niebrugge was the lone EHS player in double figures with 11. The Hearts drop to 7-2 on the season.

At Mattoon
Grace Nelson broke the school record at Altamont on Saturday as the Indians defeated Central A&M, 63-49 in a game played at Lake Land College.
Nelson scored 33 points and passed the boys record which was previously held by Ryan Armstrong with 1,690 points. She now has 1,699 points and is only a junior.
The Indians ran out to a 21-13 opening quarter lead as Grace Nelson scored 14 points and Peyton Osteen tallied five.
Nelson continued with seven points while Claire Boehm added four points and the Indians held a 33-20 halftime lead. Altamont then outscored Central A&M 18-10 in the third period.
Nelson finished with 33 points on 13 field goals and seven of nine at the line. P. Osteen chipped in with 10 and Boehm added eight.

Neoga came callng and picked up a 54-35 win over Cumberland in a non-conference matchup Saturday.
The Indians edged out to a 16-11 opening quarter lead and led 25-13 at halftime.
Three players hit double figures for the winners. Sydney Richards tallied 17 while Haylee Campbell added 11 and Brynn Richards 10.
Neoga remained unbeaten with a 11-0 record and plays host to Brownstown/St. Elmo Thursday.
Cumberland was led by Katelyn Shoemaker with 18 points.

North Clay (Louisville) fell to host Graves County, Ky. at the McCracken County Shootout, 51-43.
The loss drops North Clay to 5-3 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action today at Altamont.
