Girls Junior High Basketball Sectionals -- Dec. 7

Two area teams will be heading to state tournament action in girls junior high basketball after both squads picked up victories in sectionals Wednesday evening.

In the Class 8-1A Pana Sacred Heart Sectional, Sigel St. Michael defeated Martinsville easily by a 41-11 score.

The Sharpshooters advance to the State Tournament Saturday where they will take on Peoria St. Vincent de Paul in the opener at 10 a.m.

St. Michael comes into the meeting with a 21-2 record while Peoria St. Vincent de Paul has a 17-6 mark.

Other teams include Jerseyville St. Francis HG (15-3), Lockport Taft (12-7), Kewanee Visitation (17-2), Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell (19-6), Cissna Park (20-5) and Ottawa Marquette (22-1).

In the Class 8-2A State Tournament, Brownstown/St. Elmo will be competing.

BSE handed Dieterich a 31-14 loss to win the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional Wednesday evening.

BSE advances with a 25-1 record and will meet Peoria Christan (15-6) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the 2A State Tournament at Havana High School.

Other teams entered at Mount Pulaski (22-1), Mount Sterling Brown County (23-2), Colfax Ridgeview (19-6), Nokomis (23-4), Paris Crestwood (23-0) and Bourbonnais St. Geroge (14-2).

Game 1 -- Peoria St. Vincent de Paul vs. Sigel St. Michael, 10 a.m.

Game 2 -- Jerseyville St. Francis HG vs. Lockport Taft, 11:30 a.m.

Game 3 -- Kewanee Visitation vs. Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell, 1 p.m.

Game 4 -- Cissna Park vs. Ottawa Marquette, 2:30 p.m.

Game 5 -- Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, 5 p.m.

Game 6 -- Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4, 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, December 15

Game 7 -- Loser Game 5 vs. Loser Game 6, 6 p.m. (third place)

Game 8 -- Winner Game 5 vs Winner Game 6, 7:30 p.m. (championship)
