NEOGA -- Dieterich High School pulled out a 45-44 victory over Neoga in National Trail Conference boys basketball action Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons trailed Neoga by a 16-4 opening quarter count. Quintin Richards led the Indians with 10 of the 16 points on four field goals and a free throw.

But Dieterich reversed the run, outscoring Neoga 17-2 in the second period to lead 21-18 at halftime. Caleb Gephart led the way with seven points while Niebrugge knocked in two three-pointers.

Dieterich continued its run with a 13-10 third period to lead 34-28 going into the final quarter.

Then here came Neoga. The Indians' Brady Reynolds got hot, nailing four three-pointers and a free throw. But Neoga fell short as Dieterich held on for the one-point victory.

Gephart led the way for Dieterich with 16 points while Niebrugge and Luke Westendorf had eight points each.

Neoga was led by three players in double figures. Richards led the way with 14 points while Sheehan and Reynolds tallied 13 each.

At St. Elmo

North Clay (Louisville) took the early lead and held off St. Elmo/Brownstown in the final quarter for a 68-60 victory as two National Trail Conference teams met Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals held a 36-29 halftime lead and had a 20-15 second period run. SEB came back with a 16-12 final period but it was too little, too late.

Three players hit double figures for North Clay (2-0 NTC, 4-3 all). Logan Fleener and Alex Boose tallied 21 each while Levi Smith added 14. Fleener pulled down 13 rebounds and Walden had 11. Fleener also led in assists with four. Alex Boose and Walden had three steals each. The Cardinals connected on 10 three-pointers as Boose led the way with six.

Two players scored in double figures for SEB (5-2). Jarrett Pasley led the way with 19 points while Adam Atwood added 18. Atwood led in rebounds with nine and assists with four. Cade Schaub had four assists and three steals. SEB had seven three-pointers led by Pasley with three.

North Clay also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 52-44. Carter Walden tallied 20 while Jesse Weidner added 10 for the winners. SEB was led by Maxey with 13.

At St. Elmo

At Altamont

Newton came calling and picked up a 54-47 win over Altamont in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.

The Indians held a 16-15 opening quarter lead but Newton came roaring back with a 15-5 second period to lead 30-21 at halftime.

Altamont made a comeback bid in the third quarter with a 12-9 run to pull within 39-33 going into the final period. .But Newton had a 15-14 lead and held on for the victory.

Parker Wolf led the way for the Eagles with 19 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and Dylan Gier with 11.

Altamont was led by Mason Robinson with 16 points on four field goals, one a three-pointer, and seven of eight at the line.

Altamont dropped to 2-2 on the season while Newton improved to 5-1 overall.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont claimed a 69-38 victory. Kaden Davis tallied 15 and Kaidyn Miller added 10 for the winners. North Clay was led by M. Meinart with nine.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg handled Arcola by a 66-22 tally Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets led 31-16 at halftime then had a 35-6 second half run.

Austin Wittenberg and Carter Chaney led the way for the Hatchets with 14 points each while Jordan Wittenberg and Dylan Curry scored nine each.

The Hatchets improved to 6-1 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras also was a winner in junior varsity play, 39-25.

The Hatchets will play host to Shelbyville Friday.

Teutopolis held a 37-20 halftime lead and went on for a 73-39 win over Paris Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes had three players score in double figures. Brendan Niebrugge led the way with 16 points while Caleb Siemer added 15 and James Niebrugge 13

Siemer led in rebounds with seven while J. Niebrugge had five assists.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 5-1 on the season.

Cumberand traveled to Casey-Westfield and the homestanders picked up a 65-43 victory Tuesday.

The Pirates held a 16-14 opening quarter lead as Gavin Hendrix hit three baskets and a free throw for eight points, Trevin Magee five points with one three-pointer and Blake McMechan a three-pointer.

The Warriors came back with a 15-8 second period to lead 29-24 at halftime. Casey-Westfield then had a 26-19 second half run.

Cumberland was led by Hendrix with 22 points.

Vandalia edged South Central by a 49-44 tally Tuesday evening.

The Vandals took the early 17-11 lead and led 27-25 at halftime. South Central was still within striking distance in the third quarter, trailing 36-33.

But Vandalia had a 13-11 final period for the victory.

The Cougars were led by Aidan Dodson with 28 points on 11 field goals, including two three-pointers and four of six at the line.

South Central won the junior varsity game and the freshman/sophomore contest.

At Farina
