WSS Nabs OT Win Over Dieterich, Friday Boys Basketball Roundup

DIETERICH -- Dieterich and Windsor/Stewarsdon-Strasburg went double overtime before the Hatchets pulled out a 60-52 win in boys basketball action Friday in a game heard on 979 XFM.

Dieterich held a 10-7 opening quarter lead behind six points by Kolton Kidd. But the Hatchets came back with a 16-8 second period run to lead 25-18 at halftime. Austin Wittenberg knocked in three baskets while Carter Chaney and Jordan Wittenberg had a three-pointer each.

Dieterich pulled within 35-32 going into the final quarter. Caleb Gephart kept the Movin' Maroons in the contest with nine of the 14 third quarter points. Windsor/Stew-Stras' Jackson Gurgel nailed two three-pointers.

Dieterich continued its run and had a 14-11 final quarter to knot the score at 46-46 sending the game into the first overtime period. Both teams then scored six points and the game went into the second overtime. Windsor/Stew-Stras' J. Wittenberg connected on a basket and A. Wittenberg hit six of six free throws in the quarter. The Hatchets held Dieterich scoreless in the second overtime period.

A. Wittenberg led the way with 22 points while J. Wittenberg added 14.

Dieterich was led by Lucas Westendorf with 20 points while Gephart added 16 and Kidd 15.

At Sullivan

Effingham St. Anthony's Brock Fearday and Griffin Sehy got the Bulldogs off in the right direction in a 52-37 non-conference win over Sullivan Friday evening.

Fearday connected on four regular baskets for eight points while Sehy hit two regular baskets and a three-pointer for seven as St. Anthony held a 15-12 opening quarter lead.

St. Anthony continued offensively with a 14-8 second period to lead 29-20 at halftime.

Then the Bulldogs opened it up with a 23-17 second half for the victory.

Fearday tallied 18 points, hitting eight field goals and two of two at the line while Griffin connected on six baskets, two of those three-pointers and one of three at the line for 15.

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony was a 25-23 winner. Aiden Lauritzen scored 11 while Brady Hatton added 10.

At Ramsey

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up a 56-44 win over Ramsey Friday evening.

The Bobcats connected on 22 of 37 free throws in the contest and it started in the opening quarter with five free throws. Clayton Wojcik led the way with seven points in the quarter.

Ramsey made a comeback bid in the second period with a 17-13 run to pull within 28-26 at halftime.

CHBC got back on track with a 16-9 third quarter to move ahead 44-35. Wojcik tallied 11 points in the quarter while Carson Evans chipped in with five.

The Bobcats then hit 10 of 16 free throws in the final period.

Wojcik led the way with 24 points on seven field goals and 10 of 14 from the free throw line. Eight other players scored in the game.

Neoga took the early lead then had to fight off St. Elmo/Brownstown for a 49-47 victory Friday evening.

The Indians held a 16-12 opening quarter lead. SEB had an 11-9 second period to pull within 25-23 at halftime. Both teams scored 11 in the third period and 13 in the final quarter.

Neoga was led by two players in double digits. Reynolds led the way with 18 points while Richards added 14. Reynolds led in rebounds with seven and Richards had six. Sheehan led in assists with two.

SEB was led by Adam Atwood with 13 and Caleb Campbell with 12. Cade Schaub pulled down eight rebounds and had three steals. Atwood led in assists with four.

Three players hit double figures as Altamont captured a 68-55 win over Vandalia Friday evening.

The Indians took a 17-13 opening quarter lead and led 28-23 at halftime. Altamont had a 40-32 second half.

Avery Jahraus and Mason Robinson led the way with 14 points each while Kienon Eirhart added 10 for the Indians.

The Indians connected on 25 field goals that included four three-pointers by Jahraus. They hit 11 of 14 from the free throw line.

Altamont was also a winner over Vandalia in junior varsity play, 73-48. Four players hit double figures for Altamont. Kaidyn Miller and Aden McManaway led with 14 each while Alec Jahraus added 12 and Eli Miller 10.

At Odin

South Central ripped out to a 17-3 opening quarter lead and handed Odin/Patoka a 58-34 non-conference loss Friday.

The Cougars' Aidan Dodson went on an eight-point run in the opening quarter and ended up leading the way with 22 on 10 field goals, two of those three-pointers. Also in double figures was Markley with 12.

South Central is now 3-0 on the season.

The Cougars also claimed the junior varsity contest and a freshman/sophomore game.

Newton ripped out to a 21-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 61-39 win over Paris Friday.

The Eagles held a 36-21 halftime lead and had a 25-18 second half.

Caden Nichols led the way for Newton with 22 points on 11 field goals. Dylan Gier chipped in with 16 while Parker Wolf added 12. Gier led in rebounds with eight.

Newton improved to 1-0 in the Little Illini Conference, 4-1 overall and is back in action Tuesday at Altamont.
