WINDSOR -- Effingham St. Anthony put together a 63-33 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in girls high school basketball action Thursday.

The Bulldogs held an 11-4 opening quarter lead as four players scored. St. Anthony then went on a 22-13 second period run to lead 33-17 at halftime. Anna Faber and Nancy Ruholl led the way with six points each.

WSS' Ella Kinkelaar  scored 10 of her team's 13 second quarter points.

St. Anthony continued on with a 21-9 third quarter as Lucy Fearday scored 12 points. Fearday finished up with 23 points on 10 field goals and three of four at the line to lead the Bulldogs. Also in double figures was Ruholl with 11.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Kinkelaar with 15 on five field goals, two of those three-pointers and three of four at the line.

At Effingham

Effingham racked up another victory, this one a 69-63 win over Mount Vernon Thursday evening.

The Rams took a 12-11 opening quarter lead but the Hearts came back with a strong 19-3 second period to lead 30-15 at halftime. Bria Beals hit three baskets including two three-pointers for the Hearts for eight while Averie Wolf connected on two baskets that included a three-pointer and was two of two at the line for seven.

Mount Vernon came back with an 18-12 third quarter and had a 30-27 final period but the Hearts held on for the win.

Madison Mapes led the way with 24 points on seven field goals, three of those trifectas and was seven of eight at the line. She scored 16 in the final period. Beals tallied 14 and Niebrugge finished with 13.

The Hearts hit eight three-pointers in the game and were 19 of 28 at the free throw line.

At Effingham

At Benton

Teutopolis tallied a 60-57 win over Benton in Thursday evening action.

The Wooden Shoes held a 13-7 opening quarter lead but Benton came back to tie the score at 28-28 at halftime. Kaylee Niebrugge kept the Wooden Shoes in the contest in the second period with an eight point run.

Niebrugge continued her barrage on the basket, hitting six field goals and two of three at the line for 14 of the 19 points scored in the third period for a 47-40 lead.

The Shoes then held off a final quarter challenge by Benton for the win.

Niebrugge finished with 29 points on 12 field goals and five of six at the line. Also in double figures was Emily Konkel with 10.

Niebrugge also led in rebounds with nine and had two steals. Konkel and Courtney Gibson had two steals each. Konkel led in assists with two.

Altamont ripped out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 66-18 win over Casey-Westfield Thursday evening.

Eight players scored for the Indians. Grace Nelson led the way with 26 points on 10 field goals that included two three-pointers. Also in double figures was Claire Boehm with 11 on four field goals that included two three pointers and a free throw.

Altamont also won the junior varsity game, 29-26.

Cumberland High School continues to roll along.

The Pirates tallied a 59-41 victory over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville Thursday.

Cumberland took a 29-17 halftime lead then had a 30-24 second half run.

Katelyn Shoemaker led the way for Cumberland 24 points on 10 field goals and three free throws. J. Carr tallied 13 points while Abbie Becker added 10. Carr and Becker had three trifectas each.

Neoga played host to North Clay (Louisville) and sent the Cardinals home with a 61-27 loss Thursday evening.

The Indians held a 28-15 halftime lead. Three players hit double digits for the winners. Haylee Campbell led the way with 19 points on nine field goals and a free throw.  Also in double figures were Sydney Richards with 15 and Allison Worman with 14.

Neoga improved to 7-0 on the season and will play host to South Central Monday.

North Clay was led by Czyzewski with nine points.

Neoga also nabbed the junior varsity game, 26-11.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had three players finish in double figures in a 77-27 win over Martinsville Thursday.

The Bobcats ripped out to a 26-10 opening quarter lead and led 56-23 at halftime.

Gracie Heckert led the way with 26 points on 11 field goals that included two trifectas and two of two at the line. Macee Rodmann added 12 points while Mady Wojcik added 10. Heckert led in rebounds with seven, steals with 10 and assists with six.

The Cougars took a 13-10 opening quarter lead and led 22-19 at halftime. South Central had a 16-14 third quarter and then held off Webber Township in the final quarter.

Three players scored in double figures for South Centarl. Brooklyn Garrett tallied 17 while Brooke Cowger added 13 and Kaitlyn Swift 10.

Paris held a 23-11 halftime lead on Newton and had a 28-14 second half run for a 51-25 victory Thursday.

Leading the Eagles was Lilly Kessler with nine points. Kessler and Alexis Hetzer led in rebounds with six each. Kessler and Camryn Martin had two steals each.

Newton drops to 0-1 in the Little Illini Conference, 2-5 overall.

Paris also nabbed the junior varsity game, 30-27. Leading Newton was Willenborg with nine points. Newton dropped to 3-1.
