Effingham St. Anthony scored a 76-50 win over Dieterich in girls high school basketball Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 21-20 opening quarter lead behind eight points by Stacie Vonderheide and six by Anna Faber.

Dieterich stayed just a point behind on the scoring of Miley Britton who knocked in two three-pointers and two regular basket for 10 points.

St. Anthony then got untracked with a 25-6 second quarter run to lead 46-26 at halftime. Nancy Ruholl hit two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight while Lucy Fearday knocked in two baskets and was three of four at the line for seven.

The Movin' Maroons made a slight run in the third quarter, outscoring St. Anthony, 14-12 but couldn't make up that second period surge by the Bulldogs.

Four players scored in double figures for St. Anthony. Ruholl and Fearday led the way with 17 points each while Anna Faber added 16 and Vonderheide 12.

Dieterich was led by Britton with 17, Brummer with 14 and Kady Tegeler with 10.

St. Anthony won the junior varsity contest, 37-7. Nancy Ruholl had 10 points for the winners.

Dieterich was led by Miller with five.

At Mount Vernon

Kaylee Niebrugge came up big for Teutopolis as the Wooden Shoes defeated Mount Vernon 60-55 Tuesday.

Niebrugge led the way in the opening quarter with nine of the Wooden Shoes 18 points as they took a one point lead.

T-town had a 13-11 second quarter to lead 31-28 at halftime.

The Shoes had a 16-12 third quarter to lead 47-40 going into the final period. Mount Vernon came back with a 15-13 final period but fell short.

Niebrugge finished with 29 points, connecting on three trifectas and hit 10 regular baskets. Also in double figures was Chloe Probst with 10.

Emily Konkel and Niebrugge pulled down 10 rebounds each while C. Probst had nine. Konkel and Summer Wall had two steals each. Joleen Deters had two assists. Konkel had one blocked shot.

At Farina

South Central had a big scoring second quarter to claim a 52-42 win over Casey-Westfield Tuesday evening.

The Cougars edged out to a 10-8 opening quarter lead then had a 20-10 second period run to lead 30-18 at halftime. The scoring was even between four players in the quarter.

Casey-Westfield came back with a 15-12 third quarter to pull within 42-33 but the Cougars got back on track and finished strong for the win.

Brooklyn Garrett led the way for the Cougars with 17 points while Brooke Cowger added 12 and Taegan Webster 11.

At Fairfield

Fairfield took the first quarter lead on Newton and never looked back in a 42-19 victory Tuesday.

The Mules led 23-12 at halftime and had a 19-7 second half.

Leading Newton were Kessler with eight and Martin with seven. Kessler led in rebounds with eight and Hetzer had six and led in steals with three.

Newton was a 38-33 winner over Fairfield in the junior varsity contest. K. Martin tallied 12 and Meinhart 11 for the winners.

At Vandalia

Altamont's Grace Nelson started slow but came on strong the next three quarters as Altamont tallied a 64-59 win over Vandalia Tuesday evening.

Nelson scored a three-pointer in the opening quarter as Vandalia ripped out to a 21-11 lead. But Nelson got untracked with 11 points and Altamont pulled within 32-28 at halftime.

Nelson then scored eight points and Kylie Osteen six in the third quarter and Altamont was within 49-44. Nelson then knocked in a three-pointer, four regular baskets and was four of five at the line while Claire Boehm added three free throws and Peyton Osteen a basket as the Indians went on a 20-10 tear and claimed the win.

Nelson finished with 37 points while K. Osteen added 12.
