The Mustangs ripped out to a 13-0 opening quarter lead and led 35-15 going into the final quarter. Altamont came back with a 15-3 run but Effingham held on for the win.
Drew Weis led the Mustangs with 16 points while Melia Wendling added seven.
Altamont was led by Kuenstler with 11 points.

At Beecher City
Teutopolis was a winner in both seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball games over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.
In the opener, T-town took a 12-0 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 42-11 win.
E. Willenborg scored 10 for the winners while McMahon and Probst had six each. The Shoes are now 16-1 on the season.
CHBC was led by Ethel Stuckemeyer with four. CHBC dropped to 7-11.
In eighth-grade play, T-town captured a 36-19 win. The Shoes had a 16-3 second quarter.
Borries scored 12 and Tegeler 10 for the Shoes. T-town is now 13-4 on the season.
CHBC was led by Hely Doty with eight points. The Bobcats dropped to 9-9.
