BEECHER CITY -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, seeded No. 4, upset top-seeded Sigel St. Michael, 26-23 in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.

St. Michael edged ahead 4-3 in the first quarter but Windsor/Stew-Stras had an 8-2 second period run to lead 11-6 at halftime. WSS kept the pressure on with a 7-6 third quarter  and then had enough to hold off the Sharpshooters 11-8 in the final period run.

Mya Friese led WSS with 11 points.

St. Michael was led by Alisyn Kollman, also with 11 points.

In the second contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo edged Altamont, 30-29.

Altamont held a 4-3 opening quarter lead but BSE came back with a 10-5 second period run to lead 13-9 at halftime.

Altamont moved ahead 21-20 in the third quarter with a 12-7 run behind Ella Nelson's six points.

But BSE rallied and had a 10-8 final period to pull out the victory. Danika Ramsey and Dayana Haslett both connected on a three-point shot while Maddie Miller knocked in a regular basket and two free throws.

Haslett finished with 15 points to lead the winners while Ramsey added nine.

Altamont was led by Cici Pearcy with nine points and Ella Nelson with eight.

Tonight's games feature North Clay (Louisville) against Dieterich at 6 p.m. and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City meeting Effingham Sacred Heart at 7:15  p.m. in consolation bracket action.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday. The consolation championship, featuring tonight's winners, will be held at 9 a.m. followed by the third place game featuring St. Michael and Altamont at 10:15 and the championship featuring Windsor/Stew-Stras and Brownstown/St. Elmo at 11:30.

At St. Anthony

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Effingham St. Anthony in Thursday evening competition.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest, 38-6. T-town stepped out to a 19-6 opening half lead and held the Bullpups scoreless in the second half while tallying 19 more points.

E. Vahling led T-town with nine points. Budde led St. Anthony, scoring all six points. The Shoes are now 13-1 on the season.

In eighth-grade action. T-town was a 20-15 winner and improved to 10-4.

The Bullpups held a 2-0 opening quarter lead but T-town came back with a 6-0 second quarter to lead 6-2 at halftime. St. Anthony had a slight 5-4 edge in the third period but T-town came back strong in the final quarter for the win.

C. Hoene scored 11 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Schultz with five.
