Effingham Junior High School captured two victories over Olney in girls basketball Monday.

The seventh-grade squad was a 19-13 winner. The Mustangs stepped out to a 5-0 opening quarter lead but Olney came back in the third quarter to knot the score at 11-11. EJHS then had an 8-2 final period.

Alaina Miller led the Mustangs with seven points while Keagyn Koenig added six.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham edged Olney 32-27 in overtime.

Olney held a 9-6 opening quarter lead but the Mustangs came back to lead 16-9 at halftime. Effingham still held a lead in the third quarter 24-18 but Olney came back in the final period with a 6-2 run to tie the score at 26-26, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Effingham's Drew Weis scored three points while Maci Hayes connected on two free throws and Tessa Raddatz one free throw.

Hayes led the way with eight points for Effingham.

At Louisville

Brownstown/St. Elmo came calling and claimed a victory in eighth-grade play over North Clay (Louisville) Monday.

BSE was a 29-17 winner. North Clay dropped to 2-9. 

North Clay won the seventh-grade matchup, 25-17 in overtime.

North Clay's eighth-grade squad will be back in action today in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Tournament against South Central at Beecher City.
