Effingham Junior High School downed Salem Franklin Park in both seventh- and eighth-grade girls baskteball play Friday.

The Mustangs edged Salem, 24-22 in the seventh-grade game. The score was tied at 12-12 at halftime. EJHS then had a 6-0 second quarter run but Salem came back with a 10-6 final period only to see the Mustangs hold on.

Emery Spicer led the way in scoring withi nine points while Nora Cekander added seven.

In the eighth-grade contest, the score was tied 19-19 at halftime. The Mustangs led 27-25 going into the final quarter when Salem Franklin Park tied the score sending the game into overtime. In the overtime session, Effingham held Franklin Park scoreless while Macy Wendling connected on two free throws and Macy Kirk one.

Wendling finished with 12 points to lead the Mustangs.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed two victories during Saturday action in seventh-grade play while the eighth-grade squad fell in both contests.

Teutopolis faced Taylorville and won in the seventh-grade game, 29-26. Avery Probst tallied 11 for the Wooden Shoes.

In the eighth-grade contest, Taylorville was a 32-20 winner. T-town was led by Borries with 11.

T-town then took on Mahomet-Seymour and won the seventh-grade matchup, 32-17, taking a 17-4 halftime lead.

Emma Vahling scored 10 for the winners who are now 11-1 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, Mahomet-Seymour had a good fourth quarter and outscored the Shoes 8-2 in overtime for a 29-23 victory.

T-town was led by Pals with seven points as the Shoes fell to 8-4 on the season.
