DIETERICH -- Sigel St. Michael and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.

St. Michael was a 30-14 winner over North Clay (Louisville) in the opening game Thursday evening.

The Sharpshooters held a 15-8 halftime lead then had a 15-6 second half run.

Kaelyn Ordner led the way for the winners with 12 points while Brooklyn Will added eight.

North Clay was led by Mila Zink with eight points.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg then edged  Altamont, 18-16.

WSS took a 5-4 opening quarter lead but Altamont came back to lead 10-6 at halftime.

WSS then held Altamont scoreless and took the lead 14-10 going into the final quarter. Altamont made a comeback bid only to fall short.

Jackie Vonderheide led the winners with eight points.

Altamont was led by Reagan Kuenstler with eight points.

Tonight's games in consolation bracket play feature Dieterich against South Central at 6 p.m. and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City taking on Brownstown/St. Elmo at 7:15.

The finals are set for Saturday. The winner of tonight's games meet for the consolation championship at 9 a.m. North Clay faces Altamont at 10:15 for third place and Sigel St. Michael takes on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 11:30 for the championship.

At Effingham

Effingham captured both seventh- and eighth-grade victories over Charleston Thursday.

The Mustangs easily claimed the seventh-grade contest, 25-2. Effingham led 14-1 at halftime.

Emery Spicer led the way for Effingham with 12 points while Nora Cekander added nine.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham won 30-6. The Mustangs hed a big second period going from a 6-0 lead to a 24-2 halftime tally.

Drew Weis scored eight points in the second quarter and finished with 10 to lead the Mustangs. Melia Wendling added eight.

At St. Anthony

Robinson Nuttall came calling and handed Effingham St. Anthony two losses Thursday.

Nuttall claimed the seventh-grade contest, 37-13.

The Bullpups were led by Emmerich with seven points.

In eighth-grade action, Robinson Nuttall edged St. Anthony, 16-14.

Lauritzen led the Bullpups with eight points.
