Spurs Take 2-0 Lead Over Grizzlies
(San Antonio, TX) -- The Spurs held homecourt to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals with a 93-89 overtime win over the Grizzlies. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich says Tim Duncan carried the offense in the OT.
Jerry Bayless missed a three pointer with less than 20 seconds left that would have tied the game in the extra period. Memphis forced OT by outscoring the Spurs 21-to-9 in the fourth quarter. All five San Antonio starters were in double figures led by Tim Duncan with 17 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Tony Parker had a playoff carerr-high with 18 assists and chipped in 15 points. The Spurs held Memphis is 34-percent shooting from the floor. Game Three is at the FedExForum on Saturday.
Cavs Earn Top Pick In NBA Draft
(New York, NY) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have earned the top pick in the NBA Draft The Cavs had a 15.6-percent chance of landing the first overall pick in the NBA Draft Lottery in New York. The Orlando Magic had the best odds at 25-percent. The Magic earned the second pick, while the Washington Wizards grabbed the third pick.
Clippers Fire Del Negro
(Los Angeles, CA -- Vinny Del Negro is out as head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers have fired Del Negro after three seasons. The 46-year-old led the Clipps to a 56-and-26 record this season and the team's first Pacific Division title. L.A. earned the fourth seed in the West, but lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in six games in the first round of the playoffs.
Bobcats Apply For Name Change To Hornets
(Charlotte, NC) -- The Bobcats have applied to the NBA to change their name to the Hornets. Owner Michael Jordan made the announcement Tuesday. If approved, the switch would take effect for the 2014-15 season. The initial NBA franchise in Charlotte was named the Hornets but moved to New Orleans in 2002 and recently changed its name to the Pelicans.
