Effingham edged Mount Zion in eighth-grade girls basketball action Friday, 15-14.

Mount Zion took a 7-2 opening quarter lead but Effingham came back to pull within 11-9 at halftime and 14-13 going into the final quarter then had a 2-0 run to pull out the victory.

Macy Kirk led the way with eight points.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis won by a point in seventh-grade play over Newton and claimed a big scoring win in eighth-grade action Friday.

In the seventh-grade game, Newton took a 9-4 opening quarter lead and led 11-10 at halftime. Newton remained ahead 17-13 going into the final period and the Wooden Shoes pulled out the 20-19 victory.

Ella Willenborg led with seven points for the Shoes who are still unbeaten at 8-0.

Newton was led by Bergbower with 15.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town ran off to a 30-10 halftime lead and went on for a 50-29 win.

Elise Pals scored 17 while Chloe Hoene and Kylie Borries had nine each for the Shoes who are now 7-1.

Newton was led by Probst and Hemmen with 10 each.

At Teutopolis

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and North Clay (Louisville) split victories Friday.

North Clay tallied a 19-8 win in the seventh-grade game. S .Russell and Pontious led the way with six points each.

CHBC was led by Ethel Stuckemeyer with four points as the team dropped to 2-3 in the National Trail Conference, 2-6 overall.

In the eighth-grade game, CHBC trailed North Clay 7-5 at halftime then had a 20-8 second half run for the 25-15 victory.

Haley Doty led the way for the winners with 12 poitns. CHBC improved to 3-2 in the conference, 4-4 overall.

North Clay was led by Zink and Romack with four points each.

At Beecher City
