Area high school basketball fans may remember Drake Jeffries, a 6-foot-5 player for Mattoon High School

Now you may be able to watch him again as he signed to play for the Orlando Magic. The deal with the Magic was first reported in July.

Jeffries graduated in 2017 from Mattoon High School and went on to play college ball at Minot State University. He transferred to Indian Hills Community College in Iowa where he led the team during the 2019-20 season to a Region XI championship.

He finished out his college career at the University of Wyoming at Laramie. Known for his three-point shooting, Jeffries ended his last year at Wyoming with 94 three-pointers for third place in a single season in school history. He had a total of 146  and that put him in third on the school’s all-time list.

He finished with 11 three-pointers in one game which broke the Wyoming and Mountain West Conference record for most threes in a game. He averaged 10.3 points along with 5.4 rebounds.

Jeffries wasn’t selected in the 2022 NBA draft, so he joined the Denver Nuggets Summer League team and played in one game.

Jeffries is is likely to be waived by the Magic before the NBA season begins and will go to Orlando’s G League affiliate in Lakeland, Florida.
