WNBA star Brittney Griner has appealed the nine-year prison sentence she was given in Russia for drug possession, according to Russian media reports Monday.

That news came after a senior Russian diplomat said Sunday that talks about a prisoner swap had been conducted. It’s been reported that the U.S. has offered to free Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who’s serving a 25-year sentence, in exchange for Griner and another American being held by Russia, Paul Whelan.
