The Illinois High School Association Board discussed the implementation of a shot clock in varsity boys and girls basketball recently.

The National Federation of State High School Associations will allow for the usage of a shot clock beginning in 2022-23. The IHSA held discussions and surveyed member school administrators and coaches on the shot clock at Town Hall meetings in November and discussed the shot clock again at their meeting in June.

Seventy-eight percent of school administrators were against implementing the shot clock in the regular-season and State Series in 2022-23.

Coaches were 50.79 percent in favor of implementing it during the 2022-23 season.

As a result, the IHSA Board will discuss next steps next year although the exact meeting has not been determined yet, according to Matt Troha, Assistant Executive Director for the IHSA.
