The Memphis Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks was suspended for one game by the NBA Thursday for the flagrant foul that led to the Golden State Warriors’ Gary Payton II fracturing his elbow in the Game 2 of the second-round playoff series and Brooks being ejected.

Brooks hit Payton across the head in the air as he was chasing him down from behind and Payton fell hard to the floor. Brooks will miss Game 3 on Saturday, while Payton, who also suffered ligament and muscle damage, is out indefinitely.

Magic Johnson Bidding To Buy Broncos

National Basketball Association legend Magic Johnson has joined a group bidding to buy the NFL’s Denver Broncos, ‘Sportico’ reported Thursday.

The Broncos were put up for sale in February, and ‘Sportico’ reports the team could be sold for as much as $4 billion. Johnson is one of the investors who bought MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012, and is co-owner of the WNBA’s L.A. Sparks and Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Football Club.

WNBA Opens Season Tonight

The WNBA’s new season will get underway tonight with four games, including one between the defending champion Chicago Sky and the L.A. Sparks.

The league’s 26th season will also be its longest, with each team to play 36 regular-season games for the first time.

Looming over everything, however, is the absence of Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner, who’s been detained in Russia since February. An image of Griner and her Number 42 will be on each team’s court for the season.
