BOSTON, Mass. – Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville freshman guard Ray'Sean Taylor (Collinsville, Illinois) has been named to the Kyle Macy Freshmen All-America Team. As such, he joins 25 other freshmen who are now finalists for the Kyle Macy Award, presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball.

Taylor was limited to just 21 games this season, after suffering an ACL tear in SIUE's Jan. 29. He was the OVC's leading scorer at the time and was the leading scorer among first-year players in the country at 17.6 points per game.  He averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 32 minutes per game. He connected on 44 percent (136-311) of his field goal attempts and averaged 2.4 three-pointers per contest.

Taylor led SIUE in scoring 14 times, scored in double figures in 19 of 21 games, and scored 20 or more points in a game nine times. Taylor won the OVC Freshman of the Week award five times this season.

The Kyle Macy Award is named for a guard Kyle Macy who starred as a freshman for Purdue.

The 1975 Indiana "Mr. Basketball" played his freshman season at Purdue University, averaging 13.8 points per game while leading the Boilermakers in free throws (85.9 percent for the season). He started in 25 of 27 games, helping them to a 16-11 season record.

The recipient of the 2021 award will be announced on April 1 in New Orleans, the site of this year's Final Four.
