Rep. Colin Allred said Wednesday that he’s working with the State Department to try to get WNBA star Brittney Griner released from Russia.

Griner, who was playing in Russia during the off-season, was detained at the airport February 17 after Russian officials say they found cannabis oil in her luggage.

The Texas Democrat said, “My office has been in touch with the State Department, and we’'re working with them to see what is the best way forward. . . . But obviously, it’s also happening in the context of really strained relations.”
