South Central Downs Altamont to Win Dieterich 1A Regional

South Central advances to the St. Anthony 1A Sectional and will take on Macon Meridian Wednesday at 7pm. Meridian beat Neoga 73-67 to win the Windsor/Stew-Stras Regional.

The game was never more than six points either way. South Central led the contest 11-9 after one quarter and held a 21-20 lead at halftime. Altamont was up by as many as five points but the Cougars fought back to tie the game at 37 after three quarters. South Central outscored the Indians 19-13 in the final quarter to post the six-point win.

Aiden Dodson poured in 29 points to lead the South Central attack, going 10-for-20 from the field and hitting 7 of 10 foul shots. Spencer Johannes was also in double figures with 11 points. Also for the Cougars: Keenin Willshire 7, London Hails 4, Ethan Watwood 3 and Brant Hiestand 2. 

 Eric Kollman with 12 points and Noah Klimpel with 10 points led Altamont. Also for the Indians: Will Schultz 9, Mason Robinson 7, Mason Winn 4, Tyler Robbins and Logan Cornett 3 each, and Avery Jahraus 2. 

South Central shot 47% from the field, making 18 of 38 shots including 3 of 5 threes. The Cougars made 16 of 27 free throws. 

Altamont shot 42%, making 21 of 50 shots including 5 of 21 threes. The Indians made 3 of 9 foul shots. 

Altamont outrebounded South Central 29-28 and both teams had minimal turnovers, 10 for South Central to 8 for Altamont. 

South Central improved to 26-7 on the season, while Altamont closes out its campaign with a 26-7 record. The Indians say goodbye to seniors Noah Klimpel, Tyler Robbins, Mason Winn, Will Schultz, and Bryce Suckow. 

Those who advanced to sectional competition in the three-point contest were Terrance Martinez of Cisne, Andrew Wente of Dieterich, Rahkeim Anderson of Dieterich, and Caleb Campbell of St. Elmo/Brownstown.
