Newton, T-town Advance To Title Game

ARTHUR -- Teutopolis and Newton claimed victories Wednesday in the Class 2A Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Boys Basketball Regional and will now square off for the championship.

The Wooden Shoes, the top seed, easily handled Shelbyville, 68-36. T-town ripped out to a 19-9 opening quarter lead and led 38-16 at halftime. In the first quarter, Caleb Siemer knocked in four basktes for eight points.

Brendan Niebrugge was the catalyst in the second quarter, scoring 10 of the team's 19 points. Niebrugge and Siemer led the way with 12 points each for the Shoes while Mitch Althoff added 10 as the only two double figures performers for the Shoes. Max Niebrugge and Dylan Pruemer were on the verge of double figures with nine each.

In the second contest, seventh-seeded Paris took the opening quarter lead 10-7 but Newton, seeded fourth, came back with a 13-2 second quarter to lead 20-12 at halftime.

Newton then had a 26-17 second half run.

Parker Wolf was the lone Eagles player to finish in double figures with 16. Ben Meinhart added eight points.

Newton moves to 19-9 on the season. The Eagles and Wooden Shoes will square off Friday at 7 p.m. for the regional championship.
