St. Anthony won the Class 1A Cumberland Regional championship.

The St. Anthony Bulldogs are regional champions, capturing the Cumberland 1A Tournament with a 61-57 win over the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

St. Anthony advanced to the Tuscola Class 1A Sectional and will play Hume Shiloh Tuesday at 6pm. We will broadcast that game.

The game was just as close as the first two contests the teams played this season. The Bulldogs never led by more than six points and the Bobcats never led by more than three points.

St. Anthony led 16-15 after one quarter, but CHBC led 27-26 at halftime. A 19-14 third quarter left St. Anthony on top 45-41. A 16-16 fourth quarter gave the Bulldogs the four-point win.

The Bulldogs shot 44% from the field, making 21 of 48 shots including 1 of 11 threes. St. Anthony struggled from the line, making 18 of 33 for 55%. The Bulldogs pulled down 35 rebounds, though, and committed 13 turnovers.

The Bobcats also shot 44% from the field, also 21 of 48, but 5 of 12 on threes. The edge on made threes was offset by just 13 foul shots, of which they made 11. CHBC grabbed just 24 rebounds and turned the ball over 20 times.
