St. A Claims Third; T-town Drops Title Contest At Junior High State

St. Anthony captured third place at the Class 8-2A State Basketball Tournament.
Effingham St. Anthony captured third place in the Class 8-2A State Basketball Tournament Wednesday at Decatur Robertson.
The Bullpups stepped out to a 16-10 lead on Casey-Westfield and led 25-16 at halftime. The two teams played to a 23-23 second half.
Two players hit double figures for St. Anthony in the victory. Aiden Lauritzen tallied 24 points on nine field goals and six of 12 at the line while Henry Brent scored 14 on four field goals and six of eight at the line.
Casey-Westfield was led by Nolan Clement with 15 points.
St. Anthony ends the season with a 25-4 record.
In the championship game, Decatur Robertson defeated Kankakee Bishop McNamara, 48-27.

Class 8-3A State Tournament
Teutopolis High School finished second in the Class 8-3A State Tournament at Tolono Unity Junior High School Wednesday.
T-town and Washington Middle School played to a 9-9 opening quarter tie. Washington moved ahead 20-15 at halftime.
In the third period, the Wooden Shoes had a 15-13 run to pull within 33-30 going into the final quarter. But Washington came back with a 9-5 run for the 42-35 win.
The Wooden Shoes were led by Isaac McWhorter with nine points on one three-pointer and six of eight at the line and Jason Kreke, also with nine points on three field goals and three of four at the line.
T-town finished the season with a 24-5 record.
In the third place contest, East St. Louis Lincoln edged Tolono Unity, 31-28.
