MOWEAQUA -- Effingham High School players had their scoring shoes on Tuesday evening as the Hearts pounded Moweaqua Central A&M, 80-24.

The Hearts ripped out to a 27-2 opening quarter lead as Garrett Wolfe put together nine points on two three-pointers, a regular basket and a free throw while Jett Volpi and Brayden Pals had eight each.

Andrew Donaldson took over in the second period for the Hearts, knocking down three trifectas and the Hearts held a 48-11 halftime lead.

Three players finished in double figures for the Hearts. Pals led the way with 19 points on nine field goals and a free throw while Wolfe added 18 on seven field goals, three of those trifectas, and one of two at the line and Volpi with six fielld goals, two three-pointers, and three of four at the line for 17.

The Hearts are now 10-20 on the season and are back in action Thursday playing host to Mount Zion in an Apollo Conference encounter.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony broke a 6-6 opening quarter tie with a 16-10 second period and went on for a 53-40 victory over Altamont Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs finished strong with a 20-12 final period. Kyle Stewart was the big gun on the night, scoring 20 points. He connected for five in the first half, then tallied seven in the third period and eight in the final quarter. Stewart hit six field goals, one a three-pointer, and was seven of 11 at the line.

Also in double figures for the Bulldogs was Craig Croy with 14 points, seven coming in the final quarter.

Altamont didn't have a player in double figures. Mason Robinson scored nine, six coming in the final period after being held to three in the first three quarters. 

The loss dropped the Indians to 23-6 on the season.

In the junior vasrity contest, Altamont was a 70--57 winner. Avery Jahraus led the way for the Indians with 25 points while Keinon Eirhart added 11 and Dillan Elam 10. St. Anthony was led by Ryan Schmidt with 31.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown ran out to a 19-4 opening quarter lead on Ramsey and went on for a 63-44 victory Tuesday evening.

The Eagles connected on 50 percent from three-point range, hitting 11 of 22. Gavyn Smith and Caleb Campbell hit four each in earning their 20 and 18 points respectively. Jarrett Pasley added two.

Both teams hit exactly 54 percent each from the free throw line.

SEB held a 43-17 halftime lead and led 63-31 going into the final quarter. The Eagles are now 15-15 on the season.

Adam Atwood led the way in rebounding with five. Brady Maxey and Smith had four assists each. Atwood led in steals with three.

 At Teutopolis

Teutopolis put together a 68-39 victory over Mattoon in action Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 15-11 opening quarter lead then had a 26-11 second period to lead 41-22 at halftime. Mattoon had a slight 11-9 edge in the third period but the Shoes went on an 18-6 final quarter run.

Three players hit double digits for the Shoes. Caleb Siemer led the way with 15 points on six field goals and three of five at the line. Dylan Pruemer chipped in with 12 while Brendan Niebrugge added 11.

Max Niebrugge led in assists with eight while Siemer pulled down nine rebounds.

T-town is now 22-7 on the season and back in action Friday traveling to Woodlawn for the final regular season contest before regionals begin.

At Casey

Newton High School went overtime before pulling out a 67-64 victory over Casey-Westfield Tuesday evening in a Little Illini Conference contest.

The Eagles and Warriors played to a 17-17 opening quarter tie before Casey-Westfield moved into a 33-31 halftime lead. Newton came back with a 13-10 third period to lead 44-43. Casey-Westfield then had a 16-15 final quarter to send the contest into overtime.

Newton had an 8-5 OT run to claim the victory.

Evan Schafer led the way for the Eagles with 23 points while Mason Schafer added 13 and Ben Meinhart 11.

Newton finishes the season with a 6-2 record in the LIC and stands at 17-9 overall going into regional action next Wednesday at Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.

Cumberland High School handily downed Argenta-Oreana, 68-36 Tuesday evening.

The Pirates had four players hit double figures in the win. Maddox McElravy tallied 19 to lead the way with seven field goals and five of six at the line. He scored eight in the second period. Jaxon Boldt and Gavin Hendrix tallied 11 each while Elijah McElravy added 10.

The Pirates held a 31-17 halftime lead and outscored Argenta-Oreana 37-19 in the second half.

Dieterich tallied a 46-36 win over Woodlawn in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 9-2 opening quarter lead and led 21-16 at halftime. Dieterich had a 25-20 second half.

Two players hit double figures for the Maroons. Andrew Lidy led the way with 16 points while Bryce Budde added 14. Lidy connected on eight field goals while Budde hit five field goals, one a three-pointer, and was three of four at the line.

Sandoval edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 57-55 in a non-conference contest Tuesday.

The Blackhawks held a 14-13 opening quarter lead on CHBC and led 31-26 at halftime. The Bobcats pulled within 47-45 in the third quarter as Jadon Robertson hit two field goals and four of six at the line for eight points.

But the Bobcats could only play to a 10-10 final period to fall by two points.

Robertson led the way for CHBC with 24 points on 10 field goals and four of seven at the line. Also in double figures with 15 was Silas Buzzard.

Tuscola ripped out to a 13-2 opening quarter lead and led 30-14 at halftime. Neoga still trailed 43-25 going into the final period and could never get over the hump.
