STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 69-38 boys basketball loss Friday.

The Hatchets ran out to a 17-5 opening quarter lead and led 47-12 at halftime.

Three players hit double digits for the Hatchets. Samuel Vonderheide tallied 22 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and five of six at the line. Austin Wittenberg chipped in with 12 and Jordan Wittenberg had 10.

The Hatchets improved to 4-3 in the National Trail Conference and 22-5 overall.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Jadon Robertson scored 10 points in the contest and went over 1,000 for his career. Leading the Bobcats was Kade Persinger with 11. CHBC dropped to 0-7 in the conference, 10-16 overall.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to St. Elmo/Brownstown and handed the Eagles a 60-53 loss Friday evening.

The Indians edged out to a 15-14 opening quarter lead. All 15 of the Indians points came from three-pointers as Noah Klimpel and Will Schultz put in two each and Mason Robinson had one.

Altamont still held the edge in the second period with a 12-10 run to lead 27-24 at halftime. In the third period, Altamont widened the margin to six points going into the final period.

In the final quarter, Altamont had a 21-20 edge. Robinson, who had six points going into the final period, went on a streak, connecting on three baskets, one a three-pointer, and six of nine at the line for 13 points. Robinson finished with 19 for the contest while Klimpel added 14. The Indians connected on 22 of 31 free throws.

SEB was led by Caleb Campbell with 17 and Jarrett Pasley with 11. The Eagles hit 10 three-pointers in the game. Campbell led in rebounds with eight while Gavyn Smith added six. Campbell and Brady Maxey had two steals each. Campbell had one blocked shot.

Altamont improved to 4-1 in the NTC, 23-5 overall.

In the junior varsity game, Altamont was a 52-37 winner. Altamont was led by Wyatt Phillips and Kaidyn Miller with 10 points each. SEB was led by Josiah Maxey with 13.

At Oblong

Neoga picked up a non-conference victory over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville Friday evening, 56-25.

The Indians held a 22-12 halftime lead and had a 34-13 second half run.

Two players scored in double figures for Neoga. Paci McClure led the way with 14 points while Luke Romack added 11. The Indians connected on nine three-pointers. McClure led the way with four while Brady Reynolds added three and Will O'Dell two.

At Farina

South Central was a double winner during weekend action. In a Friday game, the Cougars defeated Mulberry Grove, 56-27.

The Cougars broke a 7-7 opening quarter tie with a 24-3 second period and that was the contest.

Aiden Dodson led the way for the Cougars with 19 points. He was the lone player in double figures for South Central. Spencer Johannes chipped in with nine.

In the junior varsity game, South Central was a 70-22 winner.

In the Saturday contest, South Central defeated Ramsey, 75-33.

Keenin Willshire scored seven points while Spencer Johannes scored six as the Cougars ran out to a 21-9 opening quarter lead. The lead went to 45-21 halftime lead. Willshire continued his hot scoring with a field goal and six of six at the line for eight points.

Willwhire finished with 19 for the Cougars while Johannes added 15, Aidan Dodson 14 and Ethan Watwood 11.

The Cougars won the junior varsity game, 62-38.

South Central improved to 21-7 on the season.

Cumberland edged Arcola, 48-45 in Friday competition.

The Pirates held a 13-10 opening quarter lead and led 23-14 at halftime. Arcola came back with a 19-15 third period and outscored Cumberland 12-10 in the final quarter but the first half lead held up.

Gavin Hendrix led the way for Cumberland with 13 points while Maddox McElravy added 12.

Olney edged Newton in a Friday contest, 36-35.

Newton took a 9-8 opening quarter lead but Olney came back to tie the score at 18-18 at halftime. The Tigers then took a 32-26 lead going to the final period. Newton made a comeback bid only to fall a point short.

Mason Schafer led Newton with 10 points while Ben Meinhart added nine. The Eagles dropped to 5-2 in the Little Illini Conference, 16-9 overall.
